Job summary

Van Andel Institute in Grand Rapids, MI seeks a Laboratory Manager to lead daily operations, coordinate research activities, and maintain efficient, high‑quality workflows in the Laird Laboratory. You will supervise staff, manage budgets, and drive experimental planning and troubleshooting across cancer and epigenetics projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in biological sciences or related field; Master’s preferred.
• 5+ years of biological science research experience with hands-on bench work and lab operations responsibilities.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities with attention to detail and integrity.
• Experience collaborating with scientists, clinical/research partners, and admins.
• Initiative, independence, problem solving, and process improvement mindset.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day operational activities of the laboratory and resource allocation.
• Coordinate projects, experiments, troubleshooting, and interpretation of results.
• Improve laboratory organization, sample tracking, and storage.
• Supervise and mentor laboratory personnel, students, and trainees.
• Coordinate complex initiatives with internal teams, clinical partners, vendors, and collaborators.
• Draft regulatory documents for research compliance.
• Manage purchasing, inventory, equipment, vendor relationships, and budgets.
• Develop standardized procedures to improve efficiency and research quality.
