Job summary

SIMCO Electronics is seeking a Laboratory Operations Lead to guide day-to-day calibration and repair activities. You will supervise technicians, coordinate lab and field services, and ensure quality documentation in support of customer and company goals.

The role combines hands-on calibration with leadership responsibilities, requires prior lab leadership experience, and involves interaction with customers and lab staff across SIMCO locations. Flexible hours and travel may be needed.

Qualifications

  • Requires Associate's degree or technical certification; PMEL or equivalent training desirable.
  • Minimum 5 years in calibration/repair with expertise in Dimensional, RF/Microwave, and general test equipment calibration.
  • Strong knowledge of calibration standards, procedures and enterprise calibration systems.

Responsibilities

  • Independently calibrate, maintain and verify equipment per standards and procedures.
  • Coordinate lab operations, field services, and triage of calibrations; monitor assignments.
  • Assist lab supervisor with daily operations and ensure timely service documentation.

Job Description
Position Overview

A Laboratory Operations Lead assists the day-to-day operations of a commercial calibration and repair laboratory to meet and exceed customer requirements and company objectives. This position works and reports directly with the lab supervisor (manager or director).

This position combines hands on technical work, including independent calibration activities, with leadership functions that provide technical support to a team of calibration technicians. The Laboratory Operations Lead interacts regularly with both customer and employees in the lab and field service settings, assists in assigning calibration work, determines appropriate methods and procedures, and may oversee technician activities, particularly in the absence of the lab supervisor.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Independently perform calibration, maintenance and verification of equipment in accordance with industry standards and company procedures.
  • Coordinate and monitor laboratory operations and job assignments to include field services, in-house calibration, outside services, incoming triage, transfers triage and final inspection.
  • Assist the lab supervisor (manager or director) on the day-to-day laboratory operations and ensure service documentation is completed accurately and on time to meet the lab performance metrics on turnaround time and efficiency.
  • Provide daily direction and support to the calibration technicians in the absence of the supervisor.
  • Position may direct required breaks/lunch time for the team but does not have any timecard approval or performance management duties.
  • Support training and onboarding of new team members on technical procedures, quality and safety protocols.
  • Act as the point of contact for internal communications when the supervisor is unavailable and set an example of embodying the principles of SIMCO's Mission in Service.
  • Support the operations supervisor (manager or director) on other assigned tasks.
Qualifications
  • Associate's degree or technical certification in a relevant field. A formal PMEL or equivalent technical training is highly desirable.
  • At least 5 years of experience in the calibration and repair industry with formal experience in Physical Dimensional, RF/Microwave and general test equipment calibration.
  • Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with calibration standards, tools, procedures and use of an enterprise system for calibration activities.
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 17025 and uncertainty calculations.
  • Prior leadership experience or demonstrated ability to lead small teams is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and organizational skills.
  • Strong proficiency with MS Office applications and business computer systems.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently when needed.
Physical Demands
  • This position includes hands on calibration activities both in the lab and in a field service setting.
  • Must be able to drive a company vehicle.
  • Must be able to lift up to 45 lbs. without assistance. Occasional standing and bending are required.
Working Environment
  • Works in a laboratory or manufacturing environment at a SIMCO location and/or customer sites.
  • May require flexible hours to support the service operations and customers.
  • Travel may be required primarily for field service.
