Job summary

Description:Active certification is required upon submission.Flu vaccine is mandatory.Experience in Blood Bank and phlebotomy is preferred.Housing and transportation are the responsibility of the employee.The start date will be no less than 6 weeks after the required processing steps are completed.Under minimal supervision, the Clinical Laboratory Scientist applies advanced technical skills and seasoned judgment to independently provide a full range of sample test analyses and laboratory services.Shift work, including nights and weekends, may be required to provide 24-hour laboratory coverage.All levels of testing, including high complexity testing as defined by CLIA, will be performed.This position involves working with a diverse patient population, including infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include full technical oversight of laboratory operations and a variety of duties related to complex technical problems.The Clinical Laboratory Scientist must procure compatible, lifesaving blood units for patients with specific antibodies.Assignments may involve challenges such as limited information about new instruments or testing methodologies.Decisions made can directly affect the quality of patient care and may be critical.The role includes writing procedures in accordance with established standards and overseeing the review and distribution of these procedures.Establishing a quality control program appropriate for the testing performed is necessary.Ensuring that accepted performance levels are maintained throughout the testing process is required.Technical problem resolution and ensuring remedial actions are taken are essential functions.Training new employees during their orientation period and providing ongoing training for all staff on departmental changes is important.Evaluating the competency of all testing personnel is part of the responsibilities.Supporting process improvement activities and understanding regulatory standards are also required.Collaboration with laboratory management to maintain proper inventory levels is necessary.Performing high complexity testing and laboratory services is a core duty.Accuracy in evaluating and interpreting test results is critical.Identifying and resolving inconsistencies in results while collaborating with team members is required.Specialized expertise in microbiology, transfusion medicine, and molecular biology is needed.Maintaining laboratory equipment, ensuring quality control, and reviewing performance data with management are essential tasks.Preparing for inspections by regulatory institutions is a required aspect of the role.In conjunction with laboratory management, reviewing staff work and assigning tasks is necessary.Training duties include fostering education for new employees and laboratory students.Participation in continuing education programs is expected.Ensuring adequate inventory levels and performing other assigned duties are part of the role.
