  • Operates laboratory sections including processing, phlebotomy, and microbiology setups.
  • Examines and interprets test results to identify abnormalities across multiple disciplines.
  • Calibrates and maintains testing equipment and performs routine maintenance.

License: Current certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent required

Certifications: American Medical Technologists (MT-AMT) certification or equivalent required

Description:Maintains responsibility for specimen processing, test performance, and test result reporting.Provides clerical and patient care support services with high accuracy, precision, and timeliness.Ensures compliance with departmental and regulatory agency standards.Works in multiple laboratory sections, including processing, phlebotomy, and microbiology setups.Functions under the supervision of a Laboratory Supervisor or Clinical Laboratory Scientist.Examines and interprets test results to identify abnormalities, including blood bank, chemistry, hematology, microbiology, serology, toxicology, and urinalysis.Prepares sterile media in various formats for bacterial cultures and incubates cultures at prescribed times and temperatures.Prepares solutions, reagents, and stains, following standard laboratory formulas and procedures.Demonstrates knowledge of the policies and procedures relevant to the duties of a Medical Laboratory Technologist.Performs only those technical duties for which training and orientation have been documented and approved.Maintains detailed records of tests performed and reports laboratory test results.Recognizes Quality Control shifts and trends and takes necessary action.Responds to queries regarding age/sex-specific expected, therapeutic, abnormal, and critical values.Follows the critical value policy, notifying appropriate personnel or medical doctors timely.Generates patient reports using both report generation and print screen functions.Calibrates and performs routine maintenance on testing equipment.Cleans and sterilizes laboratory equipment, glassware, and instruments.Maintains the laboratory supply of chemicals and glassware.Operates automated instrumentation and performs manual tests in a timely and accurate manner.Performs order entry procedures using the Laboratory Information System.Demonstrates an understanding of HIS registration episodes by selecting the correct request for registration.Implements quality control procedures and addresses any out-of-control situations.Documents results and remedial actions taken.Follows established schedules for quality control testing.Performs repeats and dilutions accurately and calculates final results on diluted values.Uses laboratory positive patient identification procedures for specimen integrity.Prints worksheets, incomplete logs and other required logs or reports.Resolves logs and communicates pertinent information to coworkers.Processes incoming specimens, including microbiology, labeling, centrifugation, and separation.Assists other departments with testing as time and circumstances permit.Receives incoming purchased reagents and supplies, documenting the date and time received.Performs other job-related duties as assigned.Commits to the safety and well-being of associates and patients through required vaccinations.Adheres to all organizational policies and compliance requirements.
