Job summary

Thompson Engineering is seeking a Construction & Geotechnical Materials Laboratory Manager to lead laboratory operations supporting testing services for soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, and related materials.

This role oversees personnel, equipment, safety, calibration, and quality systems, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant results while aligning with Thompson Engineering's standards and business objectives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a STEM-related field with 3+ years of experience in construction and geotechnical materials laboratory testing (or 10+ years of relevant lab experience in lieu of a degree).
• Certification by recognized authorities in concrete, aggregates, soil/rock, or asphalt is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead daily operations of construction/geotechnical laboratories to ensure safe, accurate, and timely testing.
• Ensure compliance with Quality Program, QMS, project specs, and accreditation standards (A2LA, AASHTO, USACE, ISO 17025, etc.).
• Develop and maintain laboratory procedures aligned with quality/operational requirements.
• Oversee proficiency testing and resource management; supervise staff and foster professional development.
• Support business activities: proposals, quotations, cost estimates, and pricing to ensure profitability.
