Job summary

Anchorage Neighborhood Health Center Inc. seeks an experienced Laboratory Director to provide operational leadership across hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, microbiology and phlebotomy within a busy clinical laboratory.

You will ensure CLIA compliance and accreditation, supervise staff, manage budget and inventory, drive quality assurance and safety programs, and collaborate with clinical teams to maintain high standards of patient care.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 8 years laboratory experience in non-waived testing.
  • 2 years of supervisory laboratory experience in non-waived testing.
  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical, physical, biological, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Bilingual preferred.

POSITION SUMMARY:Provides operational leadership and support for clinical laboratory services under the direction of the CLIA Laboratory Director. Oversight includes hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, microbiology testing as well as phlebotomy.Regulatory Compliance & Technical OversightPerforms CLIA Technical Consultant functions as delegated by the CLIA Laboratory Director, ensuring compliance with all applicable CLIA regulations and accreditation standardsMaintains and updates laboratory policies and procedures to ensure continuous compliance with CLIA and other regulatory requirementsMonitors the accuracy and reliability of testing methods performed in the laboratory, ensuring compliance with quality assurance standardsEnsures that routine calibration, preventative maintenance, and repair of laboratory equipment are completed in accordance with manufacturer recommendations and are properly documentedReviews laboratory orders for operational compliance, including billing, diagnosis coding, and other regulatory requirements, escalating issues as appropriateQuality Assurance & Performance ImprovementCoordinates and supports laboratory quality assurance and improvement programs, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulationsIdentifies, documents, and assists in the investigation and resolution of quality deficiencies within laboratory services, collaborating with the CLIA Laboratory Director to implement corrective actionsMonitors and reports on quality indicators, supporting ongoing efforts to improve laboratory processes and patient careStaff Leadership & Workforce ManagementHires, trains, and directly supervises laboratory personnel to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, as well as CLIA competency requirementsOversees staff scheduling to ensure adequate coverage and alignment with clinical and operational needsManages staff performance, including coaching, competency assessments, and adherence to laboratory policies, procedures, and regulatory standardsCoordinates and leads continuing education, competency assessments, and training programs for laboratory staff to support compliance with regulatory and professional development standardsOperational ManagementSupports the evaluation, selection, and implementation of laboratory methods, procedures, and equipment, providing input on accuracy, efficiency, and cost-effectivenessEnsures efficient laboratory workflows and alignment with clinical operations, functioning as a liaison between laboratory and clinical departmentsIdentifies and implements operational improvements to increase productivity and maintain quality careTechnical ResponsibilitiesMaintains technical proficiency and performs laboratory testing as needed to ensure continuity of operations and patient care, including testing in areas such as: Hematology, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Immunology, Microbiology, PhlebotomyProvides direct patient care and laboratory staffing support as needed to ensure smooth operational flow and maintain quality care delivery.Financial ResponsibilitiesCollaborates with the CLIA Laboratory Director on the development and management of the laboratory budget, ensuring financial sustainability within departmental goalsOversees inventory management, ensuring adherence to budgetary constraints and financial targetsReviews financial statements, invoices, and service contracts for laboratory supplies and services to maintain budget complianceMaintains an understanding of revenue cycle processes, including billing, insurance, and coding workflows related to laboratory servicesSafety & ComplianceDevelops, implements, and ensures compliance with laboratory safety procedures, meeting all OSHA regulations and CLIA standardsProvides safety training and maintains documentation to meet regulatory requirements, ensuring compliance across the laboratory teamMaintains and updates the laboratory safety manual, ensuring that safety procedures align with current regulationsCoordinates safety-related incident reviews, ensuring appropriate documentation, corrective actions, and follow-upQUALIFICATIONS:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.Work Experience: Minimum of 8 years laboratory training or experience in non-waived testing and 2 years of supervisory laboratory experience in non-waived testing.Education, Certification and Licensure: Minimum of bachelor’s in chemical, physical, biological, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology. Must have and maintain current BLS certification.Additional Skills & Knowledge: Bilingual preferred.
