Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Support development, assembly, testing, and evaluation of research instrumentation.

  • Read blueprints and technical specifications; operate necessary tools.

Laboratory Instrumentation Specialist Location: New Haven, CT Employment Type: Temp-to-Hire Schedule: Full-Time, On-Site Compensation: $31-$32/hour based on experience

Position Summary

The Laboratory Instrumentation Specialist will support the development, assembly, testing, and maintenance of advanced research instrumentation within a highly technical laboratory environment. This position will work closely with scientists, engineers, researchers, and technical staff to build and evaluate equipment used for cutting-edge research projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical foundation, hands-on laboratory experience, and the ability to work with complex instrumentation, mechanical components, and testing equipment.

Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree with four years of related experience, Bachelor’s degree with two years of related experience, or Master’s degree in a related technical field (physics, engineering, related disciplines)
  • Experience working in a laboratory, research, engineering, or instrumentation-focused environment
  • Hands-on experience assembling, testing, troubleshooting, or modifying scientific equipment, laboratory instrumentation, or technical systems
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation
  • Experience using hand tools, power tools, measurement equipment, and laboratory instrumentation
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to work on precision components and assemblies
  • Basic CAD experience preferred
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with scientists, engineers, researchers, and technical staff
  • Ability to learn new technologies, equipment, and processes as needed
Responsibilities
  • Support the development, assembly, testing, and evaluation of research instrumentation and laboratory equipment
  • Arrange to assemble and modify detector components, instruments, fixtures, and related technical systems
  • Develop and perform testing procedures to evaluate equipment performance, reliability, and functionality
  • Analyze test results and recommend improvements or modifications to equipment and processes
  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, schematics, and technical specifications
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, machinery, and other equipment used for fabrication, assembly, and testing
  • Assist with troubleshooting and resolving technical issues related to laboratory equipment and instrumentation
  • Prepare materials, supplies, and equipment needed for laboratory projects
  • Support general laboratory operations, including equipment organization, maintenance, and project needs
  • Collaborate with scientists, engineers, students, researchers, and technical staff on ongoing instrumentation projects
  • Assist with documentation, procedures, and process improvements related to laboratory operations
