Qualifications

  • Associate degree or technical certification in refrigeration, HVAC, electrical, mechanical, biomedical, instrumentation, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
  • Three or more years of hands-on experience servicing laboratory, pharmaceutical, biomedical, cryogenic, refrigeration, or controlled-temperature equipment is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of -80 C freezers, LN2 storage systems, refrigeration components, electrical controls, sensors, alarms, and data-acquisition systems
  • Experience with preventive maintenance, calibration, IQ/OQ/PQ, temperature mapping, and regulated documentation is preferred
  • Ability to read technical manuals, wiring diagrams, specifications, service procedures, and qualification protocols and to analyze recorded temperature data
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, sound troubleshooting judgment, and proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic service or quality systems
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to field locations; availability for occasional after-hours or emergency work based on business needs.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds with appropriate assistance, use hand and power tools, work around cryogenic materials and cold surfaces, and wear required PPE

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, and repair of -80 C ultra-low temperature freezers, LN2 tanks, and related laboratory cold-storage equipment
  • Evaluate mechanical, electrical, refrigeration, control, alarm, and monitoring systems; identify root causes and complete or coordinate corrective repairs within authorized scope
  • Perform calibrations and verification checks on temperature sensors, controllers, displays, alarms, data loggers, and associated monitoring devices using suitable calibrated standards
  • Execute installation qualification, operational qualification, and performance qualification activities (IQ/OQ/PQ), including protocol setup, test execution, data review, and discrepancy documentation
  • Plan and perform temperature mapping studies for freezers, LN2 storage units, chambers, rooms, and other controlled-temperature equipment; place sensors, collect data, evaluate results, and prepare reports
  • Install, start up, relocate, decommission, and return equipment to service in accordance with approved procedures and client requirements
  • Complete service reports, PM and calibration records, qualification protocols, mapping reports, equipment logs, certificates, and other documentation accurately and on time
  • Follow Good Documentation Practices, change control, deviation, CAPA, safety, and quality-system requirements; promptly report out-of-tolerance conditions and equipment failures
  • Communicate service findings, equipment status, risks, parts needs, and recommended corrective or preventive actions to management, Quality Assurance, and clients
  • Maintain tools, test instruments, spare parts, and service supplies; verify that measurement equipment remains within calibration before use. Follow electrical, refrigeration, cryogenic, compressed-gas, lockout/tagout, PPE, and site-specific safety requirements while working independently or with facility personnel
  • Travel to client sites, respond to urgent service needs when assigned, support vendor coordination, and perform other related duties consistent with the position

Job description

Areas of exposure: Ultra-low-temperature freezers, LN2 tanks and cryogenic systems, preventive maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting and repair, equipment qualification, temperature mapping, field service, documentation, Quality Assurance, and client support.

Role Description:

This position reports to the Technical Facility Manager or designee and interfaces with Quality Assurance, Operations, and clients. The Laboratory Equipment Field Service Technician installs, services, maintains, calibrates, qualifies, and evaluates laboratory cold-storage equipment, including -80 C ultra-low-temperature freezers and liquid nitrogen (LN2) storage tanks. The technician completes field work safely, accurately, and in accordance with approved procedures, manufacturer requirements, and applicable quality standards.

Specific Responsibilities:
  • Perform preventive maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, and repair of -80 C ultra-low temperature freezers, LN2 tanks, and related laboratory cold-storage equipment
