  • Performs delegated functions in compliance with hospital, JCAHO, CAP and departmental policies.
  • Coordinates communication with COO and Education Department; maintains minutes and reports.

## Laboratory Director### Category:Operations Openings### Department:Laboratory### Description:Laboratory DirectorThe duties and responsibilities of the Laboratory Manager include, but are not limited to, initiating, planning, and establishing policies and procedures for the Laboratory Department through constant appraisal, effective improvements, and operational evaluations. Maintains and updates standards, policies and procedures set forth by JCAHO and College of American Pathologists. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or is a logical assignment to the position.Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited college/university in chemical, physical, biological, clinical laboratory science, and/or medical technology, successful completion of a CAHEA accredited Medical Technology Program or equivalent, and ASCP Certified.Minimum of five (5) years of laboratory experience with at least two (2) years of hospital supervisory experience.Hours and days of work: Normally 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (may vary), Monday through Friday, on-call. Must be willing to work flexible hours.Employees supervised: All positions within the Laboratory Department.Develops/implements policies and procedures that guide/support services.Recommends sufficient number of qualified/competent staff.Continually provides justification to maintain or increase staffing levels in the lab. Is diligent in working with area colleges to look for new techs. Talks with other professional contacts and professional organizations to assist with recruiting.Maintains quality control programs that meet CAP, AABB or appropriate Accrediting Agency standards.Performs delegated functions in compliance with the hospital, JCAHO, CAP, and departmental policies and procedures.Performs technical duties as required and necessary while helping subordinates and peers complete certain assignments.Recognizes responsibilities to the Chief Operating Officer both through conferences, reports concerning operations, maintenance, and production within the department.Orients and evaluates new personnel in cooperation with appropriate staff and the Education Department.Keep all parties in the loop on material, information, and important issues. Maintain minutes of departmental huddle meetings and submits/discusses to COO after each meeting.
