Job summary

WVUH West Virginia University Hospitals is seeking a Laboratory Supervisor to coordinate day-to-day operations of the phlebotomy/specimen processing sections. You will schedule staff, train new personnel, and oversee technical activities to ensure accurate specimen collection and timely processing in support of patient care.

The role requires an associate degree in MLT or related field, WV HCTP licensure, and at least 3 years of lab experience; leadership experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or higher in Medical Laboratory Technology or related field.
• Must possess current licensure as required by state board where services will be provided: WV HCTP license.
• Three (3) years of laboratory experience.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate the day-to-day activities of the laboratory department.
• Schedule assigned staff to ensure adequate staff coverage of all areas as required by workflow and workload.
• Assist with recruiting, interviewing, and hiring personnel and provide timely orientation of new staff.
• Oversee Specimen Processing and/or Phlebotomy to assure proper specimen collection and processing.
• Make recommendations for department policy, procedures, and practices.
• Ensure actions are taken and documented when test systems deviate from specifications.
• Operate and oversee basic laboratory equipment per SOPs.
• Prepare and deliver patient specimens promptly according to SOPs.
• Manage supplies for specimen processing activities.
• Respond to customer inquiries and perform related duties per hospital policies.
• Perform duties of an MT/MLT.

Job description

Coordinate the day-to-day operations of the department phlebotomy and/or specimen processing staff in support of the hospital’s mission of patient care. Schedule staff to ensure proper daily coverage, provide training and orientation of assigned staff. Perform laboratory processing at current licensed level.

MINIMUMQUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Associate degree or higher in Medical Laboratory Technology or related field.
2. Must possess current licensure as required by state board where services will be provided:

WV: High Complexity Testing Personnel (HCTP) License issued by the WV Department of Health

EXPERIENCE:

1. Three (3) years of laboratory experience.

PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology (MT) or related field.
2. Certified as a Medical Technologist (MT) OR Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) by a nationally recognized agency.

1. Lead or supervisor experience in a laboratory.

6. Assure that proper action is taken and documented whenever test systems deviate from established performance specifications.
7. Operate and oversee the operation of basic laboratory equipment consistent with standard operating procedures.
8. Promptly prepare and deliver patient specimens in accordance with standard operating policies and procedures.
9. Orders, receives, and stores appropriate levels of all necessary supplies to carry out specimen processing activities
10. Respond to customer inquiries and perform a variety of duties related to customer service in accordance with hospital and laboratory policies and procedures.
11. Perform duties of an MT or MLT.
