Job summary

Orlando Health is seeking a dedicated Laboratory Assistant II to join the ORMC Core Laboratory. You will receive, process, and label specimens, register patients, and support quality initiatives in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

The role requires attention to detail, strong communication, and the ability to work both independently and within a team. A high school diploma or GED is required, with 2 years of lab or patient care experience preferred.

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Two years of laboratory or patient care experience preferred.
  • Current students pursuing a degree or certification may substitute for required experience.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a collaborative healthcare team.
  • Flexibility to support departmental needs and varying schedules.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, process, label, and prepare specimens for testing
  • Register patients and enter laboratory orders accurately
  • Demonstrate knowledge of specimen collection and handling requirements
  • Process pathology specimens and maintain specimen integrity
  • Support patient registration and reimbursement requirements
  • Assist with laboratory quality improvement initiatives
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and supplies
  • Provide outstanding customer service to patients and team members
  • Ensure compliance with safety, infection control, and regulatory standards
  • Assist with report distribution, filing, scheduling, and laboratory operations
  • Perform phlebotomy as needed (with approved competency)

Are you detail-oriented, passionate about patient care, and interested in advancing your healthcare career? Orlando Health is seeking a Laboratory Assistant II to join our dedicated laboratory team and play a vital role in supporting diagnostic services that impact patient outcomes every day.

What You'll Do

As a Laboratory Assistant II, you will:

  • Receive, process, label, and prepare specimens for testing
  • Register patients and enter laboratory orders accurately
  • Demonstrate knowledge of specimen collection and handling requirements
  • Process pathology specimens and maintain specimen integrity
  • Support patient registration and reimbursement requirements
  • Assist with laboratory quality improvement initiatives
