Job summary

McLaren Health Care is seeking a Lab Assistant for the 1st shift on a part-time basis. You will collect blood samples and assist technologists in the laboratory, supporting testing workflows.

Responsibilities include venipuncture and skin puncture, accurate labeling, data entry into the lab system, and helping maintain equipment per accreditation standards. A high school diploma and phlebotomy training are required; ASCP-BOR certification preferred.

LAB ASSISTANT – PART TIME – 1ST SHIFT

Position Summary

Collects and prepares blood samples for laboratory testing. Enters collections of such specimens in lab information system. Assists medical technologists and/or pathologists in performing designated laboratory tests. Assists with maintaining laboratory equipment and records following established accreditation guidelines and quality control standards.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Uses skin puncture and venipuncture techniques to obtain blood samples.
• Follows defined process in obtaining samples including verifying patient information, labeling specimen vials, and matching laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
• Disposes of contaminated needles and biohazard fluids or tissue in accordance with applicable laws, standards, and policies.
• Enters patient, specimen, insurance, or billing information into appropriate system(s).

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience drawing blood or phlebotomy training course in approved program.

Preferred

• Certified as a phlebotomy technician by the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP‑BOR).
