Job summary

IU Health is seeking a PRN phlebotomist to support laboratories across Fort Wayne office locations. The role includes specimen collection, order entry, pre-analytic processing, and related clerical duties.

Strong computer skills and attention to detail are important in this position. Requirements include a HS diploma or GED, and completion of a phlebotomy training program (lab/science coursework preferred).

Qualifications

  • HS diploma or GED required.
  • Must complete initial and six-month competency for identified testing.
  • Annual competency assessment required.
  • Phlebotomy training program with lab/science coursework preferred.
  • Experience in waived or moderate complexity testing preferred.
  • Working knowledge of computers and telephone skills.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks for prolonged periods.

Responsibilities

  • Perform specimen collection and related clerical tasks.
  • Handle order entry and pre-analytic processing of specimens.
  • Prepare blood components and deliver specimens.
  • May assist with patient and specimen registration.

SHIFT: PRN- 7am-5pm - 16hours per pay period

LOCATION: Float to Ft. Wayne Office locations

The laboratories of IU Health offer some of the most comprehensive laboratory services in Indiana! Open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the laboratories perform more than 19 million tests a year. In addition to IU Health, laboratory testing services are provided to hospitals and physicians across the country.

Provides general laboratory services including specimen collection, order entry, blood component preparation, pre-analytic processing of specimens as well as related clerical tasks. The incumbent may be responsible for patient and specimen registration and delivery of specimens.

  • Requires HS grad or GED Equivalent.
  • Requires successfully completion of an initial and six (6) month competency for identified testing.
  • Requires successfully completion an annual competency assessment for identified testing.
  • Completion of a phlebotomy training program with experience in laboratory or coursework in biological, chemical or related science preferred.
  • Experience in waived or moderate complexity is preferred.
  • Requires working knowledge of computers.
  • Requires telephone skills.
  • Requires ability to perform repetitive tasks for prolonged periods of time.
  • May serve on appropriate committees or projects that contribute to the overall purpose and essential functions of the department.
