Job summary

Oklahoma Heart Hospital, L.L.C. is seeking a Laboratory Assistant I to support specimen accessioning, preparation, clerical registration, and phlebotomy duties in the hospital laboratory.

The role involves interacting with patients, physicians, nurses, and lab staff to ensure timely and accurate processing of specimens. Responsibilities include verifying orders, preparing samples, distributing specimens, and documenting procedures in the EMR.

Qualifications

  • Education: High School diploma or GED required.
  • Experience: Three (3) years of clinical laboratory experience preferred; central processing and/or phlebotomy experience preferred.
  • Working Knowledge: Knowledge of laboratory tests, test requirements and terminology.
  • Essential Technical/Motor Skills: Ability to operate various electronic and clinical equipment, calibrate and troubleshoot equipment; interpret lab orders and assess lab results.

Responsibilities

  • Observe specimens to determine appropriateness of volume, condition, and documentation with minimal errors.
  • Within one hour, verify and clarify with physician/nursing staff any unclear orders.
  • Properly prepare specimens for testing according to protocol.
  • Distribute specimens to appropriate areas for testing in a timely manner to avoid delays.
  • Document all paperwork per laboratory protocol.
  • Scan orders into the EMR as needed.

Responsibilities

The OHH Laboratory Assistant I is under general supervision of the Team Leader or Medical Technologist performs specimen accessioning, specimen preparation, clerical registration and phlebotomy duties associated with the laboratory. Interacts with patients, physicians, nurses and laboratory staff including Department Managers, Team Leaders and Administration.

  • Observe specimens to determine appropriateness of volume, condition, proper collection and documentation for requested procedures with no more than one failure per month
  • Within one hour, verify and clarify with physician and/or nursing staff, conflicting or unclear orders
  • Properly prepare specimens for testing according to written protocol
  • Distribute specimens to appropriate areas for testing in a timely manner after processing so that results are not delayed
  • Document all paperwork with information outlind in the laboratory protocol
  • Scan orders into the EMR as needed
Qualifications

Education: High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required.

Experience: Three (3) years of clinical laboratory experience preferred. Experience in central processing and or phlebotomy preferred.

Working Knowledge: Knowledge of laboratory tests, test requirements and terminology is needed.

Essential Technical/Motor Skills: Ability to manipulate various types of electronic and clinical equipment, calibrate and troubleshoot equipment and computer equipment in the Hospital. Ability to operate the specialty equipment in the department and to perform tasks at a "user" level. Interpret lab orders and assess lab results.
