Position Summary
Laboratory Assistant in the Section of Dermatopathology, NYU Langone Health's Ronald O. Perelman Department of Dermatology. Supports day‑to‑day laboratory operations, including specimen management, inventory, instrument maintenance, and communication with providers and other laboratories.
Job Responsibilities
- Maintains adequate supply of laboratory items and reagents, and communicates need for additional supplies.
- Ensures proper receipt and storage of laboratory materials, receives goods and documents per NYU policy.
- Verifies specimen requirements, contacts providers, documents cancellations or rejections.
- Assures specimen quality prior to processing.
- Calls providers to confirm or clarify requests, modifies and places orders as needed.
- Front‑end processing of all samples, including labeling, centrifuging, aliquoting, transport, and placement on automated platforms.
- Back‑end processing of samples including storage preparation, tracking, and disposal per policy.
- Disposes of regulated medical, biological, chemical, and clean waste properly.
- Cleans laboratory surfaces and equipment per protocols.
- Maintains logs for temperature, humidity, and eye wash stations.
- Completes add‑on requests and retrieves addon specimens from within and outside the department.
- Reviews routine and stat pending lists, retrieves missed tests/specimens.
- Answers phone calls and provides assistance on spec requirements, test availability, TAT, etc.
- Accesses automated test platforms to assess status of test samples.
- Ships samples to other sites.
- Manages inventory of sample products (receiving, stocking, expiration).
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma.
- Laboratory experience handling open containers of blood and body fluid.
- Knowledge of computer applications, especially Excel and Word.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of communicating with all levels of the organization.

Salary
Annual salary range: $35,846.53 – $55,505.84. Actual salary depends on experience, education, and needs.
