Responsibilities

1. Collect samples for testing, including venous and capillary blood draws, and urine collections, adhering to safety protocols.
2. Perform computer inquiries and data entry for patient demographics and test orders across multiple systems, ensuring compliance.
3. Process and prepare samples for testing, including labeling, centrifugation, and preservation, and ensure sample integrity.
4. Package and deliver samples to testing laboratories following guidelines.
5. Provide guidance to new staff and students on department procedures.
6. Perform specific collections like urine drug screens and Breath Alcohol Testing, following applicable standards.
7. Utilize hospital and lab information systems for test ordering, labeling, logging, and inventory management.
8. Maintain accurate records and follow up on ambiguous orders or issues, resolving concerns per department procedures.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED, with completion of a phlebotomy course and internship, or equivalent on-the-job training with recent lab experience.
• Two years of recent experience in a clinical lab or similar setting, plus one year in insurance collection/data entry preferred.
• Current Washington State Medical Assistant certification or Medical Assistant-Phlebotomist certification within 60 days of hire.
• National registration in Phlebotomy (preferred).
