Job summary

UL Solutions in Illinois is seeking a Laboratory Technician to support testing activities and equipment setup. You will perform tests with general lab equipment and maintain test areas, input data, and follow defined test plans under supervision.

The role requires routine interpretation of results, data recording, and collaboration with engineers. Candidates should be comfortable reading schematics, learning new tests, and following UL safety and data practices.

Qualifications

  • Higher Secondary Education.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to interact with customers.
  • Desire to work in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office suite is a must.

Responsibilities

  • Builds and/or adapts basic setup and test equipment for performance of tests.
  • Performs tests using general laboratory equipment.
  • Performs routine care of designated test equipment and work area.
  • Operates computer terminal to extract/input readily available information and to use available software.
  • As directed follows defined test plans and datasheets.
  • Evaluates test performance and sample operation to properly evaluate test results.
  • Records and explains test results.
  • Reads and interprets results of tests.
  • Prepares charts, graphs and reports to explain test results.
  • Examines test samples, reads measuring instruments and reviews test data with supervisor.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams and operational instructions.
  • As instructed examines customer samples and learns to operate basic tests for each case.
  • Communicates with customers during setup and operation to ensure proper evaluation.
  • Operates designated laboratory equipment and tools as directed.
  • Receives instructions from and reports data to engineers and other laboratory technician staff.
  • Records observed or calculated data on appropriate data sheets.
  • Develops working knowledge of the job, methods, instrumentation and systems.
  • Integrates continuous improvement concepts and techniques into all aspects of the job.
  • Read and follow the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct and follow all physical and digital security practices.
  • Performs other duties as directed.

Total Rewards: We understand compensation is an important factor as you consider the next step in your career.

This position is eligible for annual bonus compensation with a target payout of 5% of the base salary.

This position also provides health benefits such as medical, dental and vision; wellness benefits such as mental and financial health; and retirement savings (401K) commensurate with the standard rewards offered in each individual location or country.

We also provide full-time employees with paid time off including vacation (15 days), holiday including floating holidays (12 days) and sick time off (72 hours).
