Responsibilities

  • Facilitate cooperation among hospital staff to provide patient care.
  • Provide outstanding service to patients, physicians, and staff.

  • Prioritize self-initiated activities based on service demands.

  • Perform technical skills in line with established standards and annual validations.
  • Obtain blood specimens by Veni-puncture in one attempt 95% of the time.
  • Identify patients according to procedure 100% of the time.
  • Order departmental supplies on designated days 95% of the time.
  • Process routine laboratory specimens within 45 minutes of collection.
  • Carry out clerical tasks as required.

Job Summary and Qualifications

Employee will be responsible for the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, psychological, educational, safety and related criteria for the neonate, infant child, adolescent, adult and geriatric population as it affects Phlebotomy. He/she will be required to maintain a professional and cooperative working relationship with patients, patients’ families, medical staff, and other hospital personnel. He/she must at all times verify patient identification at bedside, giving instructions to patients when needed, taking safety precautions during the handling of specimens and blood collections. He/she must wear appropriate personal protective equipment as required. He/she will perform tasks as assigned by the Supervisor within their scope of training.

  • Consistently provides outstanding service to all patients, physicians, fellow employees, and guests.
  • Displays initiative to see processes through to completion and offers assistance without being asked.
  • Maintains awareness of own limitations and seeks guidance from appropriate personnel as needed.
  • Prioritizes activities of self based on demands for service.
  • Remains alert to the detection of errors in own work and the work of others with appropriate corrective actions initiated.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of patient rights, including those pertaining to confidentiality, informed decision-making, and privacy.
  • Is aware of resources available for ethical concerns and makes appropriate referrals.
  • Practices cost-efficiently.
  • Performs technical skills proficiently in accordance with established standards, as evidenced by annual validation processes.
  • Successfully obtains blood specimens by Veni-puncture in one attempt 95% of the time.
  • Identifies patient according to established procedure, 100% of the time.
  • Ensures departmental supplies are ordered on designated day, 95% of the time.
