Responsibilities

Job Summary

Collect samples for testing, including phlebotomy, venous and capillary punctures, and urine collections. Responsibilities include: 1) computer inquiry and entry for patient demographics and test orders; 2) processing and preparing samples; 3) packaging samples for delivery. May also guide new employees and students, adhering to regulatory standards.

Essential Job Duties

• Perform venipuncture, capillary, and special collections on diverse patient populations, using appropriate safety devices.
• Perform urine drug screens and Breath Alcohol Testing as applicable.
• Follow established customer service standards for communication.
• Use hospital and lab information systems for test ordering, labeling, and tracking samples.
• Validate patient identity, label, centrifuge, aliquot, and preserve samples; ensure sample integrity.
• Follow protocols for resolving ambiguous orders and maintain audit trails.

Qualifications

Education/Work Experience

• High School Diploma or GED, with completion of a phlebotomy course and internship, or equivalent on-the-job training with recent lab experience.
• At least two years of recent related experience in a clinical lab or patient service setting, plus one year in insurance collection/data entry preferred.

Licensure/Certification

• Current Washington State certification as a Medical Assistant or Medical Assistant-Phlebotomist (must obtain within 60 days of hire).
• National registration with ASCP in Phlebotomy is preferred.

Pay Range: $20.71 - $28.48/hour
