Job summary

Vitruvian Health is seeking a detail‑oriented Lab Assistant to perform clerical duties and support laboratory operations in a fast-paced hospital setting. You will handle specimen accessioning, data entry, and routine lab tasks while maintaining patient confidentiality and teamwork with lab staff and external facilities.

The role requires a High School Diploma, strong computer skills, and good communication.

Qualifications

• Education:High School Diploma. Diploma or transcripts are required upon hire.
• Experience: Strong computer skills. 1-year hospital experience preferred. Prior customer service experience preferred.
• Skills:Manual dexterity and good eye / hand coordination. Ability to distinguish sound in low to high range to assure proper operation of clinical equipment. Ability to communicate with other healthcare providers by telephone to obtain or give information critical to patient care. Visual acuity, basic mathematical skills and color discrimination ability.

Responsibilities

• Handle clerical duties including faxing, answering phones, and running the pneumatic tube system.
• Register and order reference labs from other healthcare facilities, and manage data entry for patient information.
• Maintain confidentiality for hospital and patient information at all times.
• Work with Lab staff and external customers to ensure accurate specimen accessioning, sorting, and timely processing.

JOB SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the Laboratory Phlebotomy Management, the laboratory assistant performs laboratory procedures in a timely and accurate manner according to established hospital policies and departmental procedures. The function of the laboratory assistant is to perform clerical duties, responsible for performing clinical specimen accessioning, sample sorting and data entry in a fast‑paced, high-throughput environment according to established standard operating procedures, data entry of patient information in an accurate and timely manner

The position sometimes can be a fast‑paced, stressful, and multitasking job. Must have good communication skills when dealing with patients and/or visitors and must show a caring and giving attitude and know that the care of the patient is the most important job. Must be able to work individually but also as a team with the technical staff in the lab and the outside customers of the lab.

The Lab Assistant will be responsible for clerical duties including faxing, answering phones, running the pneumatic tube system, working on the computer registering and ordering reference labs from other healthcare facilities, and any other duties given be the Phlebotomy Manager, Lab Manager, and Lab Director. They must always keep hospital and patient information confidential at all times.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
