Temporary QC Laboratory Technician (Contract)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, first shift, with flexibility on start time
Employment Type: Temporary contract position
Hourly Pay Rate: $25-$28 depending on experience
Position Summary
This role is responsible for performing chemical, physical, and microbiological testing of raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products. The position also supports microbial propagation activities and environmental monitoring within a quality control laboratory.
Education, Certifications, and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline
- Prior experience in a quality control laboratory performing chemical and/or microbiological testing is preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Basic understanding of current Good Laboratory Practices (cGLP)
- Working knowledge of laboratory equipment such as analytical balances and pH meters
- Proficiency in chemical laboratory techniques including pipetting, pH adjustment, volumetric dilutions, and wet chemistry testing
- Experience with microbiological techniques such as aseptic technique, colony counting, and microbial enumeration methods (e.g., membrane filtration)
- Strong organizational skills and effective written and verbal communication
- Ability to follow established procedures and manage time independently
- Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications
- Additional desired skillset:
- HPLC operation and troubleshooting
- Raw material testing
- Color and tube tests
- Manual titrations
- Mass spectrometry experience (preferred but not required)
- Empower software experience (icing on the cake)
Primary Responsibilities
- Perform chemical, physical, and microbiological testing of raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products
- Conduct routine environmental monitoring, including microbial enumeration via membrane filtration and kinetic endotoxin testing
- Prepare reagents, media, samples, and standards as required
- Follow all test procedures and internal protocols as written
- Accurately document test results and perform required calculations
- Operate laboratory equipment according to internal procedures
- Perform microbial strain propagations, including preparation of pre-seed and associated media, inoculation procedures, contamination checks, reagent and vitamin preparation, and preparation of transfer vessels for production
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Working Conditions
- Work is performed in a scientific laboratory environment, including controlled temperature areas and clean rooms for microbial propagation activities
- May involve exposure to hazardous materials and requires strict adherence to safety policies, SOPs, BPRs, and applicable quality and compliance standards
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for more than 6 hours per day and sit between 3 and 6 hours per day
- Repetitive motion and use of vibrating laboratory equipment may be required
