Job summary

Office of the Illinois Secretary of State is seeking a Legal Advisor II in Chicago to serve as lead attorney on arbitration, unemployment, mediation, and labor-relations matters. The role provides policy guidance and legal advice to the Department of Personnel on HR issues.

Requires Illinois license to practice law and at least one year of professional experience; travel and driving may be required. Salary ranges from $6,019 to $7,917 monthly, commensurate with experience.

Qualifications

• Requires license to practice law in Illinois and one year of professional experience.
• Experience in labor and employment litigation preferred.
• Extensive knowledge of federal and state labor laws and related acts.

Responsibilities

• Lead attorney for arbitration, unemployment, mediation, and unfair labor practice charges and related hearings.
• Serve as liaison to the Attorney General’s office on assigned representations.
• Provide legal advice on labor relations to the Department of Personnel and executive staff.
• Research and analyze personnel rules, codes, and policy changes.
• Assist with union contract interpretation and labor relations matters.
• Track and brief on legislative changes affecting personnel matters.
