Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center is seeking a laboratory professional for its Central Clinical Lab in Cincinnati, Ohio. This full-time evening-shift position involves conducting tests, preparing samples, calibrating instruments, and ensuring quality control in a pediatric setting.

You will rotate weekends/holidays and engage in ongoing professional development while contributing to high standards of patient care and safety in a leading children's hospital.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical or biological science or Associate's degree in related science.
  • 0+ years of experience; license/certification as required.
  • Preferred MLS or MLT certification.

Responsibilities

  • Departmental Support - Conduct, direct or assist in special projects, evaluations, experiments or research; participate in cross trained rotation and maintain competency.
  • Technical Skills and Knowledge - Perform a variety of laboratory tests, operate instruments, perform QC, calibrations, maintenance, troubleshooting per guidelines; prepare samples and reagents.
  • Customer Service - Maintain strong relationships with clients and colleagues; respond quickly and meet needs; communicate information to stakeholders.
  • Professional Development - Maintain currency in the field; attend mandatory training; participate in committees as applicable.
  • Quality and Accountability - Perform accurate work, follow policies and regulations; ensure a safe, organized lab environment; comply with standards and ethics.

Primary Location Location G Department Central Clinical Lab Shift Evening (United States of America) Schedule Full time Weekly Hours 40 FTE 1 Employee Status Regular Hours: 3:00pm - 11:30pm, rotating weekends and holidays Hours: 12:30pm - 9pm, rotating weekends and holidays

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Departmental Support - Conduct, direct or assist in special projects, evaluations, experiments or research. Participate in regularly schedule cross trained rotation and demonstrate continued competency in various sections of the Clinical Laboratory. Participate in improving organizational performance through recommending areas or approaches for improvement activities, performing new procedures, collecting data and providing input to department discussions. Participate in establishing job requirements and goals; perform duties at the desired level of competency.

  • Technical Skills and Knowledge - Possess the appropriate skills necessary to independently perform a variety of laboratory tests. Show competency of skills. Operate instruments; perform checks, calibrations, preventative maintenance, basic troubleshooting from written guidelines. Perform and report Quality Control Procedures. Identify Q.C. failures. Prepare sample for analysis. Store and preserve specimen. Prepare reagents, assist with the monitoring supply inventories, receive and stock supplies. Perform registration and sample collection as required by location. Perform routine procedures within respective discipline, including the collection and analysis of data which will affect decisions regarding patient care.

  • Customer Service - Maintain/manage strong working relationships with clients, colleagues, and other key stakeholders. Respond to requests quickly and effectively. Identify, understand and meet customer needs and expectations. Communicate any relevant information to clients, colleagues, and other key stakeholders.

  • Professional Development - Maintain currency in the field, including maintenance of any necessary licensure/certification, through continuing education, conferences, meetings, in-services, networking, literature, and/or seminars. Attend all mandatory CCHMC training sessions. Implement obtained knowledge/skills into one's own work, the department, and/or the organization. Assume responsibility for one's own professional growth and development. May participate in internal/external professional committees, agencies, councils, and/or activities.

  • Quality and Accountability - Perform accurate, precise work with a consistently low error rate. Maintain awareness of sectional needs and contributes ones skills and abilities to meet those needs. Assume responsibility for one's own actions. Follow through tasks to completion. Understand and comply with applicable policies, guidelines, regulations, and/or accreditation standards. Document compliance as necessary. Maintain compliance with CCHMC Core Standards and code of ethics. May be responsible for ensuring that work areas are organized and present a safe, accessible, effective and/or efficient environment for employees, patients and/or families. Under the general direction of the Section Supervisor and leadership staff, perform a variety of laboratory tests to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease in a medical center caring for infants, children and adolescents.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in chemical or biological science OR Associate's degree in related science 0+ years of experience Any license, certification, or registration required
