Work Schedule

Monday-Friday; 2:30p-11:00p with rotating weekends and holidays

Responsibilities

• Accurately performs any high complexity, moderate complexity or waived laboratory testing in the assigned testing division, using advanced clinical laboratory instrumentation and equipment according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures.
• Recognizes and corrects instrument malfunctions within the scope of the operators’ manual and records troubleshooting activities.
• Confirms, verifies and reports test results independently.
• Monitors results for reasonableness and critical values.
• Correlates and interprets data generated from testing.
• Assists physicians in the interpretation of test results within the scope of the profession.
• Conducts established quality control and performance improvement activities.
• Provides clinical orientation and/or training of new employees/students.
• Prepares and/or collects specimens (blood, urine, feces or other body fluids) for analysis.
• Participates in Continuous System Improvement (CSI) and continuing education programs.
• Performs instrument and assay validations.
• Performs and signs off on technical competencies.
• Performs competency for moderate and high complexity testing, as delegated.

Qualifications

• Must meet CLIA 88 personnel requirements for high complexity testing. Bachelor’s degree required in medical technology or related science field from an accredited institution; or, must meet CLIA grandfathered medical technologist regulations.
• Language ability: read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents; respond to inquiries from customers, regulatory agencies, or the business community; write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
• Math ability: work with probability and statistical inference; fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry; apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
• Reasoning ability: define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and manage abstract and concrete variables.
• Computer skills: Word processing, spreadsheets, e‑mail, laboratory information systems.
• Certificates and licenses: certification by a recognized certifying agency for clinical laboratory professionals preferred (ASCP, ASMT, NCA, etc). Certifications may be required in specialized areas of the laboratory.
