Job summary

QSA Global, part of ITW, seeks a Laboratory Technician - Radiochemistry to join the radiochemistry team in New Jersey. The role focuses on expanding medical applications of radioisotopes, including radiopharmaceuticals and brachytherapy, with a second shift schedule (Mon-Thu 1pm–11:30pm) and a 15% differential.

You will assist in production, separation, and purification of radioisotopes, monitor safety, operate hot cells and detectors, and support process optimization while adhering to GLP and

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent in Chemistry, Radiochemistry, Chemical Technology, or related field.
  • 2+ years in a laboratory with radioisotopes or hazardous materials.
  • Familiarity with handling radioisotopes is desirable.
  • Strong foundation in inorganic/physical chemistry for radiochemical work.
  • Understanding of decay, radiation types and radioisotope applications.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in production, separation and purification of radioisotopes, focusing on radium isotopes.
  • Support Health Physics safety surveillance, operation and calibration.
  • Operate and maintain radiochemistry equipment, including hot cells and detectors.
  • Follow procedures and safety protocols under supervision of senior scientists.

Job Description

QSA Global is seeking an experienced Laboratory Technician - Radiochemistry to join our team focused on expanding medical applications of radioisotopes. We are specifically looking to grow our footprint in medical applications including radiopharmaceuticals and brachytherapy, drawing on decades of experience in radioisotope technology, design, and manufacturing. The skilled and ambitious physical scientist/radiochemist will play a key role in this dynamic growth initiative.

Note: The hours on this position are Monday – Thursday, 1pm – 11:30 pm. Enjoy a four-day work week while receiving a 15% pay differential for working second shift.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the production, separation, and purification of radioisotopes, with a focus on radium isotopes.
  • Assist the Health Physics group on safety surveillance, operation and instrument calibration.
  • Operate and maintain equipment for radioisotope handling, including hot cells, radiation detectors, and chemical synthesis apparatus.
  • Conduct routine process tasks under the supervision of senior scientists, following established procedures and safety protocols.
  • Support the scaling and optimization of radiochemical processes.
  • Monitor and record process data, ensuring accuracy and compliance with quality standards.
  • Assist in the preparation of radioactive materials for experiments and production runs.
  • Maintain a clean and safe laboratory environment, following radiation safety guidelines and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
  • Assist in the preparation of reports, logs, and records related to process operations and experiments.
  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of radiochemistry equipment.
  • Adhere to all regulatory requirements, including handling, storing, and disposing of radioactive materials.
Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree or equivalent experience in Chemistry, Radiochemistry, Chemical Technology, or a related technical field.
  • 2+ years of experience working in a laboratory environment, preferably with radioisotopes or hazardous materials.
  • Familiarity with handling radioisotopes is highly desirable.
  • Strong foundation in the principles and practices of inorganic and physical chemistry, with emphasis on materials chemistry and analytical techniques relevant to radioisotope handling and processing.
  • Understanding of the physical properties of radioisotopes, including decay mechanisms, radiation types, and applications of radioisotopes in scientific and medical settings.
  • Hands‑on experience with the preparation, isolation, and manipulation of radioisotopes in a laboratory or production environment, including equipment such as glove boxes, hot cells, and radiation detectors.
  • An entrepreneurial mindset, ready to engage in innovative approaches and think creatively to overcome challenges and seize opportunities.
  • Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills with the ability to present at all levels within the organization and with customers.
Compensation Information

The annual base salary starting range for this position is$81,600 - $102,000 annually plus a 15% differential for 2nd shift. Please note that this salary information serves as a general guideline.
