Paycom - ATS is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician to perform lab testing from order to result reporting while adhering to safety and patient-identification protocols. This role covers blood bank, chemistry, hematology, coag, urinalysis, serology, and reference lab functions.

The candidate must hold an Associate’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology with accreditation; board certification is preferred but not required.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology.
  • Accredited MLT program and certification (board certification preferred).
  • Proficiency with laboratory information systems and specimen accessioning.

Responsibilities

  • Perform tests across blood bank, chemistry, hematology, coag, urinalysis, serology and reference lab.
  • Maintain QC, calibration and preventive maintenance records for all equipment.

Job description

Position OverviewThe Medical Laboratory Technician is responsible for laboratory testing from the time an order is placed until a result is reported and all measures associated with that function.Job FunctionsAbility to function in all areas of the laboratory: Blood bank, Chemistry, Hematology, Coag, Urinalysis, Serology, and Reference Lab.Collects quality specimens while adhering to patient identification and safety protocols.Always verifies that specimens are from the correct patient and have the correct tests performed.Alters or adjusts methods and procedures for all patient types (pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric)Performs necessary preanalytical procedures prior to testing.Performs all testing in a timely manner and verifies any critical results prior to reporting.Notifies patient care unit and/or physician of critical lab values.Performs quality control, calibration, and maintenance on all laboratory equipment and maintains records of these.Must be able to identify objects using a microscope.Reports results to the ordering department or agency.Adheres to all safety and infection control policiesProficient in the laboratory information system which includes ordering, cancelling, and changing orders, logging in specimens, verifying and releasing results, manually entering results, printing, looking up results, faxing, and fixing printers.Participates in proficiency testingProficient on all lab equipment and can perform minor troubleshooting and repair.Keeps lab tidy and notifies lab supervisor of product shortages.Performs blood banking.Maintain Blood bank inventory.Interacts professionally with other employees of the hospital and demonstrates teamwork.Must be flexible, organized, and function under stressful conditions.Must meet dress code standards and always appear neat and clean.Must complete any annual educational requirements and attend mandatory hospital inservices.Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.Reports to work on time and as scheduled and completes all designated work required for the shift.Wears hospital id badge at all times while on property and used time clock properly.Must be able to communicate the Mission, Vision, and Values of the hospital as well as adhering to them.Educational RequirementsAssociate’s Degree in Medical Laboratory TechnologyMust have completed accredited Medical Laboratory Technician program and obtained certificate.Board certification preferred but not required.Physical RequirementsLifting or moving up to 20 pounds occasionallyLifting or moving up to 10 pounds frequentlyStanding, sitting, or walking for long periods of timeStooping and bending occasionallyAdequate manual dexterity and eyesight for typing, phlebotomy, and looking at specimens through a microscop
