Job summary

IFF Inc. in Carrollton, TX, is seeking a capable microbiology laboratory technician to perform standardized tests on raw materials, environmental samples, in-process products and finished goods to ensure food safety and quality.

You will follow approved methods, maintain GLP-compliant records, operate incubators and pipettes, and support environmental monitoring programs while upholding safety and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate's degree or coursework in Microbiology, Biology, Food Science, Chemistry, or related field preferred.
  • Previous laboratory experience is preferred but not required.
  • Basic understanding of microbiology principles and laboratory techniques.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to follow written procedures and work with minimal supervision after training.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to accurately document and communicate test results.

Responsibilities

  • Perform standardized microbiological testing using approved methods and laboratory procedures.
  • Prepare, label, and process samples for microbiological analysis.
  • Prepare media, reagents, and laboratory supplies according to established procedures.
  • Operate laboratory equipment such as incubators, balances, pipettes, autoclaves, colony counters, and other testing instruments.
  • Record test results accurately and maintain laboratory documentation in compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with environmental monitoring programs by processing and analyzing environmental swab samples.
  • Monitor incubation schedules and ensure timely completion of testing activities.
  • Maintain laboratory cleanliness and organization in accordance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
  • Follow aseptic techniques and biosecurity procedures to prevent sample contamination.
  • Dispose of biological waste and laboratory materials according to established safety procedures.
  • Notify laboratory leadership of atypical results, out-of-specification findings, equipment issues, or testing concerns.
  • Support investigation, verification, and validation activities as assigned.
  • Participate in laboratory proficiency testing, training programs, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Comply with all food safety, quality, safety, and regulatory requirements and company policies.

Preferred Skills

Knowledge of food microbiology and environmental monitoring programs.

Familiarity with aseptic techniques and microbiological testing methods.

Experience working in a GMP, food manufacturing, or regulated laboratory environment.

Understanding of laboratory safety and quality systems.
