Job summary

The Medical College of Wisconsin, Inc. is seeking a Laboratory Technician to provide basic support to research labs, operate common equipment, and maintain inventory of supplies and biospecimens in a controlled environment.

Under supervision, you will assist with sample processing, record-keeping, and coordination with staff. The role includes front desk support and ensuring safety and accuracy in daily tasks.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to read, follow, and enforce lab safety and protocols.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in recordkeeping.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain basic lab equipment such as centrifuges, scales, and pipettes.
  • Assist in organizing and setting up lab supplies and equipment.
  • Label, retrieve, transport samples per protocol and maintain records.
  • Participate in meetings and assist front desk with patient greeting tasks.

SummaryUnder direct supervision, provide basic support to laboratory functions including maintenance, operation of equipment and inventory of supplies and biospecimens. Support research personnel by assisting in laboratory prep and routine laboratory processing and Point of Care determinations.Primary ResponsibilitiesProvide clean and organized space with materials prepared for use within research processing labs and storage locations.Operate and maintain a variety of basic lab equipment such as centrifuges, scales, and pipettes.Assist in organizing and set up of lab supplies and equipment for individual research visits.Assist with inventory and record of supplies.Label, retrieve, and/or transport samples per protocol.Organize and maintain detailed records of specimens collected and samples shipped/stored.Assist in completing basic sample processing procedures.Participate in meetings with department managers, laboratory and clinical staff, and research staff members to review protocol needs.Assist front desk staff with greeting patients and perform other tasks as assigned.All Laboratory Techs must maintain certifications (CITI) & competencies and keep current with all assigned MCW/Froedtert training modules and safety requirements.Knowledge – Skills – AbilitiesKnowledge of biology, chemistry, mathematics, documentation, and records management.Data utilization, complex problem solving, critical thinking, resource management, and writing skills.Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce laboratory safety and protocol proceduresHigh levels of accuracy and personal accountabilityQualificationsAppropriate experience may be substituted for education an on equivalent basis.Minimum Required Education: High School DiplomaPhysical RequirementsWork requires occasionally lifting moderate weight materials, standing, or walking continuously.Work EnvironmentOccasional exposure to dust, noise, temperature changes, or contact with water or other liquids. Work is performed in an environmentally controlled environment.Sensory AcuityAbility to detect and translate speech or other communication required.
