Role Overview

The Laboratory Technician I is an entry-level technical contributor who supports laboratory testing and data collection activities for the development and application of chemical solutions for concrete applications. Under close supervision from senior technicians, scientists, or management, this role develops foundational technical skills while following established procedures and safety standards. The Laboratory Technician I assists with sample preparation, routine laboratory testing, equipment operation, and basic data recording. The role focuses on accuracy, consistency, and learning laboratory best practices while supporting team members in day-to-day testing activities. Through hands-on experience, the Laboratory Technician I builds technical proficiency and an understanding of cementitious systems, laboratory operations, and quality requirements.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Supports R&D projects and customer-related activities under close supervision.
  • Performs assigned tasks following established procedures; escalates issues as needed.
  • Must remain flexible as priorities and workload change daily.
  • Collaborates with scientists, engineers, and technicians on laboratory projects.
  • May assist with internal or external studies and demonstrations under supervision.
  • Assists with routine testing using established methods and procedures.
  • Prepares samples and performs basic laboratory analyses.
  • Operates laboratory equipment with guidance; assists with equipment setup, cleaning, and basic maintenance.
  • Records test data accurately and supports report preparation.
  • Assists with inventory organization and replenishment of laboratory supplies.
  • Maintains good attendance and timely reporting to assigned work areas.
  • Follows all EHS policies and report unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Complies with ISO quality systems and laboratory procedures.
Education and Experience

Required:

  • High school diploma, Associate's degree in a scientific or technical field, preferred.
  • ACI Field Technician certification required (acceptable to be obtained within the first year of employment). Preferred
Skills and Knowledge
  • Basic knowledge of laboratory safety, chemistry, and math.
  • Willingness to learn testing methods and equipment.
  • Good attention to detail and ability to follow instructions
  • Basic computer and documentation skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Travel

Business travel as needed including overnight travel – less than 10%
