Job summary

DLH Corp in Durham, NC is seeking a Laboratory Technician to join a multidisciplinary team conducting epidemiological and clinical studies for federal programs. This on-site role runs Monday–Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST.

The position emphasizes specimen preparation, QC, labeling, data management in Excel, and coordination across DLH facilities to meet project deadlines. A Bachelor’s degree and bench research experience are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences or related field required (no assays/testing).
• Minimum 1 year bench research experience in a laboratory setting.
• Experience working in a laboratory environment required.
• Basic experience using MS Office Suite.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Use label-creation software and create barcoded labels to scan samples into the laboratory database.
• Prepare specimens from multiple studies for long-term storage using specialized lab equipment and create aliquots per material type.
• Prepare, test, and record results of quality control (QC) material for bench processes.
• Insert QC samples and follow batching and re-labeling instructions closely.
• Manage Excel files for upload into a specimen database.
• Pack shipments of samples for external laboratories per IATA regulations.
• Lift up to 50 lbs as part of duties.
• Maintain equipment and supply inventories on a routine basis.
• Coordinate with DLH staff and external facilities to manage specimen logistics to meet deadlines.
• Develop file structures for efficient specimen and data transfer among repositories and laboratories.
• Collaborate with BSI technical specialist and act as inventory/database resource for teams to meet client deadlines.

Overview

DLH Corp is currently seeking a Laboratory Technician to serve on a multidisciplinary team that conducts, analyzes, and reports on findings from epidemiological and clinical studies on behalf of the federal government. The studies that we conduct focus on autoimmune diseases and environmental exposures. Lab technicians are the heart of our team’s business operations activities and the soul that keeps our team and our projects moving forward. Candidates with prior experience in health research or related fields are encouraged to apply. This position requires on-site support in Durham, NC (9-5 p.m. EST), 5 days (Monday-Friday). This is not a hybrid/remote position.

Responsibilities

• Use label-creation software and create barcoded labels to scan samples into the laboratory database.
• Prepare specimens from multiple studies for long-term storage using specialized laboratory equipment, create aliquots of specimens per material type (serum, plasma, cells, urine), and study protocols
• Prepare, test, and record results of quality control (QC) material as appropriate for bench processes.
• Insert QC samples and follow the batching and re-labeling instructions closely.
• Manage Excel files for upload into a specimen database.
• Pack shipments of samples for external laboratories, according to IATA regulations.
• This task requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Maintain equipment and supply inventories on a routine basis.
• Communicate with groups of staff within DLH and at external facilities to manage the logistics of a specimen pull to meet required timeframes.
• Develops file structures for efficient specimen and data transfer among repositories and laboratories.
• Works closely with the BSI technical specialist and serves as specimen inventory and BSI-II database resource for collaborators, laboratory operations manager, lab scientific director, and project managers to perform tasks across projects to meet client and project deadlines.
• Performs additional duties as required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences, microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry, Medical Lab technology, or related skills required.
• Minimum of one year of experience doing bench research (i.e., biospecimen - blood, urine, stool, and other samples - no assays/testing)
• Previous experience working in a laboratory environment required
• Basic experience using MS Office Suite
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with LIMS and in a BSL2 laboratory
