Job summary

Dermatology Partners operates a state-of-the-art in-house histopathology lab and is expanding its Lab Tech team. This role offers hands-on experience in specimen processing and slide preparation within a patient-focused environment.

The Lab Tech reports to the Lab Manager and collaborates with the pathology team in PA, DE, and MD. The ideal candidate holds a Biology degree, has tissue pathology experience, and is proficient with EMR/LIS systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Biology required.
• Experience in tissue pathology required.
• Histotech experience preferred.
• Computer literacy required; EMR/LIS systems used.

Responsibilities

• Accession specimens in a timely and accurate manner.
• Prepare slides for transport with courier.
• Filing and pulling slides as requested.
• Performing microtomy on tissue types including small biopsies.
• Staining and mounting histology slides with quality control.
• Maintain accurate records for QA and patient data.
• Assist with data entry into EMR/Billing systems.

The Lab Technician reports to the Lab Manager.Responsibilities:Accessioning specimens in a timely and accurate mannerPreparing slides for transport with courierFiling and pulling slides as requestedPerforming gross dissection/examination for select uncomplicated or wholly submitted or bisected skin specimensPerforming microtomy on various tissue types to include very small biopsiesAccurate and timely preparation and staining of histology specimens under both routine and STAT (frozen section, Mohs surgery) conditionsEnsuring safe and non-traumatic specimen handling process with critical concern for the quality of the specimenControlling contaminated or potentially dangerous specimens in accordance with accreditation agency requirementsPreparing slides with concern for the quality of the specimen given the procedures to be used for test or examinationEnsuring equipment is operated according to manufacturer's instructions, maintained properly and supplies are adequate for the work to be performedMaintaining accurate records kept for quality control, quality assurance and patient dataAssisting with data entry of patient demographics into EMR/Billing SystemsProcessing pathology billingPreparing slides for transport with courierFiling and pulling slides as requestedSorting incoming deliveries and mail and routing to the appropriate contactMaintaining laboratory logsCleaning laboratory to limit cross-contaminationMaintaining accurate records kept for quality control, quality assurance and patient dataAccessioning specimens in a timely and accurate mannerOther duties as deemed necessaryRequirements:Bachelors Degree in Biology is requiredExperience in tissue pathology is requiredExperienced Histotech is preferred but not requiredComputer literacy is required, as the office is fully electronic with EMR and LIS systems
