Job summary

Dermatology Partners seeks a dedicated Lab Tech to join our in-house histopathology lab. You will accession specimens, prepare slides, and perform microtomy for skin samples, ensuring accurate and timely processing in a patient-centered setting.

Ideal candidates have a biology background and can work with EMR/LIS systems in a fully electronic office. This role offers growth opportunities and exposure to diverse tissue types within a supportive team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Biology or closely related field required.
• Experience in tissue pathology preferred but not required.
• Strong computer and data-entry skills with EMR/LIS familiarity.

Responsibilities

• Accessioning specimens accurately and timely.
• Prepare slides for transport and filing of slides.
• Perform gross dissection and microtomy for skin specimens.
• Stain and prepare histology slides under routine and STAT conditions.
• Maintain quality control records and patient data.
• Assist with data entry into EMR/Billing systems.
• Maintain laboratory cleanliness and organization.

They have a key role in the training and acclimation of new staff to the team. The Lab Tech helps to create the culture of Dermatology Partners by always being polite, friendly, and helpful to patients and team members. They always present in a professional appearance and manner. There are no supervisory responsibilities unless assigned by the appropriate Manager. The Lab Technician reports to the Lab Manager.Responsibilities:Accessioning specimens in a timely and accurate mannerPreparing slides for transport with courierFiling and pulling slides as requestedPerforming gross dissection/examination for select uncomplicated or wholly submitted or bisected skin specimensPerforming microtomy on various tissue types to include very small biopsiesAccurate and timely preparation and staining of histology specimens under both routine and STAT (frozen section, Mohs surgery) conditionsEnsuring safe and non-traumatic specimen handling process with critical concern for the quality of the specimenControlling contaminated or potentially dangerous specimens in accordance with accreditation agency requirementsPreparing slides with concern for the quality of the specimen given the procedures to be used for test or examinationEnsuring equipment is operated according to manufacturer's instructions, maintained properly and supplies are adequate for the work to be performedMaintaining accurate records kept for quality control, quality assurance and patient dataAssisting with data entry of patient demographics into EMR/Billing SystemsProcessing pathology billingPreparing slides for transport with courierFiling and pulling slides as requestedSorting incoming deliveries and mail and routing to the appropriate contactMaintaining laboratory logsCleaning laboratory to limit cross-contaminationMaintaining accurate records kept for quality control, quality assurance and patient dataAccessioning specimens in a timely and accurate mannerOther duties as deemed necessaryRequirements:Bachelors Degree in Biology is requiredExperience in tissue pathology is requiredExperienced Histotech is preferred but not requiredComputer literacy is required, as the office is fully electronic with EMR and LIS systems
