Actalent is seeking a Laboratory Technician for a 3rd shift in Memphis, TN. The role supports a 24/7 food manufacturing lab by performing tests, evaluating product quality, and documenting results. You will work with GMP, wear PPE, and follow safety and quality systems.

Opportunity to cross-train across lab functions. Responsibilities include wet chemistry procedures (titration/plating) and maintaining equipment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, or related scientific field.
• Experience with laboratory testing and laboratory equipment.
• Knowledge of microbiology and GMP/quality systems.
• Wet chemistry experience (titration, plating).
• Ability to work both independently and in a team.
• Adherence to PPE and safety procedures.

Job Title: Laboratory Technician

Job Description

The Laboratory Technician plays a key role in supporting a busy food manufacturing laboratory by performing a variety of testing activities, quality evaluations, and microbiological analyses. In this role, you contribute directly to product safety and quality by conducting laboratory tests, operating and maintaining equipment, and accurately documenting results. You will be cross-trained across multiple lab functions and are expected to consistently follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), laboratory safety procedures, and established quality systems.

Responsibilities

• Perform laboratory testing to evaluate product characteristics such as structure, composition, and pH.
• Conduct microbiological testing, including screening for pathogens such as Salmonella.
• Operate, clean, and maintain standard laboratory equipment to ensure accurate and reliable test results.
• Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), laboratory safety procedures, and quality standards at all times.
• Support quality control and quality assurance activities within the laboratory and manufacturing environment.
• Accurately document test results, observations, and any deviations in accordance with laboratory and quality system requirements.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant laboratory workspace that meets internal and regulatory standards.
• Perform wet chemistry procedures, including titration and plating, as part of routine and investigative testing.
• Work both independently and collaboratively with the laboratory team to meet testing schedules and production needs.
• Contribute to analytical chemistry and quality assurance processes to support continuous improvement in product quality.

Essential Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Chemistry, or a related scientific field.
• Previous experience with laboratory testing and laboratory equipment.
• Knowledge of microbiology and general laboratory practices.
• Strong knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and quality systems.
• Experience or coursework in wet chemistry, including titration and plating.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
• Understanding of laboratory safety procedures and ability to adhere to PPE and safety requirements.
• Familiarity with quality control and quality assurance processes in a laboratory or manufacturing environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in a food or manufacturing laboratory environment is a plus.
• Exposure to analytical chemistry and quality assurance processes is preferred.
• Degree in Biology or Chemistry or closely related scientific discipline.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in recording and interpreting test results.
• Ability to work effectively in a rotating shift environment within a 24/7 manufacturing facility.
• Comfort working in a fast-paced setting with changing priorities and cross-functional collaboration.

Work Environment

This is an on-site role in a food laboratory located within a 24/7 manufacturing plant. Laboratory Technicians work on rotating shifts, typically five days on and two days off each week. The primary opening is for a full-time third shift schedule from 11:00 PM to 7:30 AM, with initial training likely conducted on first or second shift. The environment is highly regulated and safety-focused, requiring adherence to established safety protocols, use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and compliance with laboratory and GMP standards. You will work with standard laboratory instruments and equipment in a clean, organized, and quality-driven setting that supports continuous production operations.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Memphis, TN.

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
