Job summary

HarborCHC in Long Beach, CA is seeking a Lab Technician/Phlebotomist to perform blood draws, specimen collection, and ensure patient safety while adhering to clinical standards.

You will verify patient identity, label specimens, process samples, maintain EMR documentation, and assist care teams. California CPT I/II license and current BLS are required; 1 year medical setting experience preferred.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience in a medical setting.
  • California CPT I or CPT II license.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Experience with EMR systems.

Responsibilities

  • Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection following established protocols.
  • Verify patient identity using two identifiers and ensure accurate labeling of specimens.
  • Prepare patients for procedures, explain processes, and provide reassurance as needed.
  • Process, handle, store, and transport specimens in accordance with safety and regulatory standards.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the EMR system.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment, perform routine quality control, and report malfunctions.
  • Follow infection control, Universal Precautions, and OSHA safety guidelines.
  • Collaborate with providers and care team members to coordinate patient care.
  • Monitor inventory and notify appropriate staff of supply needs.
  • Respond to patient inquiries and support lab-related communication workflows.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations.

JOB SUMMARY

The Lab Technician/Phlebotomist is responsible for performing blood draws and specimen collection with accuracy and efficiency, while ensuring patient safety, comfort, and adherence to clinical and regulatory standards.

  • Respond to patient inquiries and support lab-related communication workflows

  • Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education, Experience, and/or Training:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; additional relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience in a medical setting
  • California CPT I or CPT II license
  • Current BLS certification
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Experience with EMR systems
Preferred:
  • Experience in outpatient/primary care setting
  • Experience with eClinicalWorks
Travel required or Special Conditions:

*May be required to travel between clinic sites; must have reliable transportation if applicable

* Subject to a criminal background check prior to employment;

* Must possess and maintain a valid California Driver's License if travel between clinic sites is required.

* Must have and maintain state required automobile insurance coverage; and

* Must successfully complete pre-employment physical and TB screening requirements and maintain any required clearances in accordance with HarborCHC policy.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust.

HOURS OF OPERATIONS

HarborCHC is open Monday-Thursday 7:00am-7:00pm, Friday 8:00 am-5:00pm, and Saturday 8:00am-5:00pm.
