Job summary

Zoetis in Phoenix, AZ is seeking a Lab Technician 2 to perform routine tests and support animal health diagnostics. You will prepare samples, operate high-throughput analyzers, and maintain comprehensive lab records per SOPs.

This full-time role supports the Global Diagnostics division and works with veterinarians and lab staff to ensure high-quality results. The position requires 2–3 years of clinical-lab experience and an associate or bachelor's degree.

Qualifications

  • Associates or Bachelor's degree required; equivalent combination of education and work experience accepted.
  • Requires 2-3 years of practical experience in a clinical laboratory.
  • Proficient knowledge in hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, endocrinology, parasitology, and cytology preferred.
  • Experience with listed instruments is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare biological specimens for testing across departments such as hematology, urinalysis, serology, chemistry, endocrinology, parasitology, cytology, and coagulation.
  • Operate high-throughput analyzers, microscopes, and other diagnostic equipment on various sample types.
  • Set up, execute, review, and release laboratory test results per SOPs.
  • Maintain daily, weekly, monthly maintenance on analyzers.
  • Troubleshoot at least one major department analyzer.
  • Review daily QC reports and Levey-Jennings charts.
  • Handle and store specimens per SOPs and dispose of waste per guidelines.
  • Keep a clean, organized lab workspace and log all activities.
  • Prepare specimens for shipment to offsite facilities per DOT and regulatory standards.
  • Receive, log, and store supplies; operate secondary equipment like centrifuges and pipettes.
  • Follow Zoetis Reference Laboratories SOPs and training modules; assist and train Lab Tech I.

Job description

Schedule: Tues - Fri 9:00pm - 5:30am; Sat 7:00pm - 3:30am

The Lab Technician 2 is responsible for performing routine laboratory tests to support the diagnosis and treatment of animal health conditions. Key responsibilities include preparing samples, operating laboratory equipment, and maintaining accurate records. This role supports the Global Diagnostics division at Zoetis and will work closely with internal veterinarians and medical team, and other lab personnel to ensure the highest standards of quality and accuracy in our diagnostic services.

Duties
  • Prepare biological specimens for testing in various departments, including but not limited to hematology, urinalysis, serology, chemistry, endocrinology, parasitology, cytology, and coagulation
  • Use high-throughput automated analyzers, microscopes, and other diagnostic equipment to test various sample types, including but not limited to whole blood, serum, urine, and feces
  • Set up and execute laboratory tests, review results, and release findings in accordance with ZRL Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Perform all routine and non-routine maintenance on department analyzers, including but not limited to daily, weekly, monthly, and as needed maintenance
  • Perform basic and advanced analyzer troubleshooting techniques on at least one major department analyzer
  • Review and accept daily Quality Control reports and weekly Levey-Jennings charts
  • Handle and store all biological specimens in accordance with ZRL Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
  • Maintain a clean and organized laboratory workspace
  • Properly handle and dispose of medical and biohazardous waste while adhering to all applicable regulatory guidelines
  • Consistently and properly fill out laboratory logs, including but not limited to maintenance logs, environmental logs, and cleaning logs
  • Maintain several types of records, including but not limited to medical records, courier logs and manifests
  • Prepare biological specimens for shipment to offsite testing facilities, adhering to all standards set forth by regulatory bodies including the Department of Transportation (DOT)
  • Receive, store, and log all laboratory and office supplies into designated locations
  • Operate and maintain secondary laboratory equipment, including but not limited to centrifuges, pipettes, heating blocks, and slide stainers
  • Understand and follow SOPs and training modules set forth by Zoetis Reference Laboratories
  • Assist and facilitate the training of all duties and responsibilities of the Lab Tech I role
  • Act as an SME on departmental projects and initiatives
  • Perform all assigned duties and responsibilities with minimal to no oversight
Education and Experience
  • Associates or Bachelor's degree required; Equivalent combination of education and work experience in a clinical laboratory in lieu of degree accepted
  • Requires 2-3 years of practical experience in a clinical laboratory setting, including performing tests and other laboratory operations.
  • Proficient knowledge in Hematology, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Endocrinology, Parasitology, and Cytology preferred
  • Preferred experience with any of the following instruments: Advia 2120i, Immulite 2000 XPi, AU680/5800, Clinitek Advantus, or Stago STarT.
Technical Skills
