Job summary

Health First seeks a Laboratory Assistant to support diagnostic services and stewardship by performing essential lab support functions. The role involves processing specimens, assisting technologists, inventory management, and ensuring compliance with policies and CLIA requirements.

Ideal candidates hold a high school diploma, have strong English communication, and can work autonomously with minimal supervision.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Work Experience: None.
• Licensure: None.
• Certification: None.
• Must pass color blindness test.
• Proficient in required computer applications.
• Work autonomously with minimal supervision.
• Strong skills in critical thinking, prioritization and organization, and English communication.

Responsibilities

• Support Laboratory leadership and staff in all phases of testing.
• Process specimens manually or with automated analyzers; manage labeling and sample tracking.
• Perform CLIA waived testing as qualified.
• Support laboratory sections as assigned (Blood Bank, Core Lab, Microbiology, etc.).
• Ensure compliance with Health First policies and accreditation requirements.
• Monitor data management systems and inventory; report variances.
• Assist in cleaning equipment and storage of specimens.
• Cross-train in other departments as directed by supervisor.
