Position Overview

UPMC Bedford is seeking a Laboratory Support Technician, Medical Laboratory Scientist, or Medical Lab Technician to join our dedicated healthcare team. The position offers shifts from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. or 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. Applicants will be placed in the appropriate job title and salary based on their experience and education. A sign-on bonus is available for eligible roles.

Sign-On Bonuses

• Medical Laboratory Technician: $10,000 for a 2-year commitment
• Medical Laboratory Scientist: $15,000 for a 2-year commitment

Role Responsibilities

• Perform routine and advanced laboratory tests used in diagnosis and treatment, ensuring accuracy and quality patient outcomes.
• Interact professionally with laboratory customers and respond to inquiries promptly.
• Follow established policies for specimen collection, processing, and analysis.
• Recognize abnormal results and initiate corrective actions.
• Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
• Maintain knowledge of techniques, principles, and instruments.
• Conduct or assist with test development and evaluation.
• Perform high complexity testing independently.
• Supervise temporarily as delegated, and train new staff and students.

Qualifications

Medical Laboratory Technician

• Associate's degree in a laboratory science and certification or eligible as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT).
• Bachelor's degree with 6 months of experience or equivalent as defined by CLIA '88.
• Preferred: 1 year hospital laboratory experience.

Medical Lab Scientist

• Bachelor's degree and completion of an accredited Medical Lab Scientist program or equivalent certification.
• At least 2 years' experience in a clinical laboratory preferred.

Laboratory Support Technician

• High school diploma with 2+ years of specimen processing experience, or related certifications and experience.

Licensure and Certifications

• MLT(ASCP) or equivalent for Technicians; MLS(ASCP) or equivalent for Scientists; certifications preferred but not mandatory.
• NY license required for NY locations.

Additional Details
