Job summary

VillageMD is seeking a Laboratory Technician to assist technologists with labeling, organizing, and maintaining COVID, blood chemistry, histology and urine samples. You will provide technical assistance and day-to-day problem solving while following Laboratory safety guidelines.

The role includes specimen prep, barcode labeling, organizing storage, and handling various specimen types, with a focus on accuracy and reliability in a clinical setting.

Qualifications

• High School Graduate/GED required.
• Health Sciences degree (AA/AS, BA/BS) preferred.
• 1 year related work experience preferred.
• Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing, required.
• Moderate-High level computer skills.
• Standard Office Equipment and LIS experience.

Responsibilities

• Prepare specimens for testing ensuring the lab's criteria is met.
• Readies specimens for analyzers with proper barcodes and requisitions.
• Organize and maintain lab storage, samples, and specimens.
• Register, retrieve, and discard specimens as appropriate.
• Familiar with tube types, test requests, and medical terminology.
• Sanitize equipment and workspace.
• Perform pipetting and organization of samples as needed.
• Troubleshoot problem specimens to find resolution.
• Ensure correct additives used and proper timing for testing.
• Centrifuge specimens delivered to the lab in a timely manner.
• Respond to duties within scope of ability.

Position Summary

To assist the technologists in the performance of laboratory duties, which include but are not limited to labeling, organizing and maintaining COVID, blood chemistry, histology and urine samples and procedures. Responsible for providing technical assistance, expertise, day to day specimen problem solving and following all Laboratory safety guidelines.

Essential Job functions

• Preparation of specimens for testing which meet the laboratory’s criteria.
• Readies specimens for placement onto analyzers, ensuring that the barcoded label is properly affixed to the specimen tubes and reference laboratory requisitions.
• Organize and maintain lab storage, samples, and specimens.
• Registers, retrieves, discards specimens as appropriate.
• Familiar with tube types, test request and medical terminology.
• Sanitize equipment and workspace.
• Performs pipetting, organizing of samples as needed.
• Troubleshoot problem specimens to find resolution.
• Ensures that specimens were collected in proper additive or that additive is added before specimen is sent for testing.
• Centrifuge specimens that are delivered to the lab after appropriate amount of time has elapsed for proper clotting.
• Discard aged specimens in appropriate disposal units.
• Recognizes and performs duties which need to be performed, although not directly assigned that are within the scope of ability.

Education, Certification, Computer and Training Requirements

High School Graduate/GED, required Health Sciences degree (AA/AS, BA/BS), preferred 1 year related work experience, preferred Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing, required Moderate-High level Computer skills, required Standard Office Equipment (Phone, Fax, Copy Machine, Scanner, Email/Voice Mail) Standard Office Technology in a Window based environment Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing required. Possible exposure to infectious specimens, communicable diseases, toxic substances, and other conditions common to a laboratory environment.

Documented evaluations occur at the end of full training and periodically thereafter.

Pay Range

$17.60 - $21.30 Hourly The provided compensation range is based on industry standards and salary determinations will be made based on numerous factors including but not limited to years of experience and location of position.
