Flagship Lab Services in San Jose, CA is seeking a Lab Support Specialist with lab experience to join our growing division. Working under supervision, this is an intermediate level role handling lab services, maintenance, and service orders, including coordination with scientists and vendors.

This position focuses on on-site tasks, equipment upkeep, and timely ticket closure, with potential overtime and routine duties like inventory and safety compliance.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Six months of related work experience.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Proficient with Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• May require a valid driver’s license and a personal vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Monitor, clean, and maintain lab equipment.
• Assist with content transfers in cold storage unit failures.
• Monitor and dump waste containers.
• Buffer preparation and LN2 Freezer Pro maintenance.
• Close out workspaces for inbound hires and prepare for new staff.
• Maintain service tickets and coordinate with vendors and scientists.

Job Summary

Flagship Lab Services is seeking a Lab Support Specialist with lab experience to join our dynamic and growing division. Working under supervision, this is an intermediate level position assigned to different operations and service departments. Performs skilled Lab Services, Maintenance, and assists in performing corrective work orders, preventative maintenance, and manual tasks such as moving equipment, and materials. This will be accomplished by performing on-site routine maintenance and assisting with duties including but not limited to the Essential Functions listed below.

Essential Functions

• Monitor, clean, and maintain the following: hood traps, incubators (fill as needed), water baths
• Assist team with content transfers in the instances of cold storage unit failures.
• Monitor and dump waste containers.
• Buffer preparation
• Maintain LN2 Freezer Pro and Cold Storage contact records (updated annually)
• Glass wash/autoclave, stocking and replenishment of clean/sterilized materials as needed.
• Work with team to close out workspaces of former employees (cold storage, bench, etc.) and prepare for inbound hires.
• Maintain service tickets in the lab equipment service system for all lab equipment needs. Interface with group and scientists to ensure service is completed and documented appropriately.
• Submit and follow-through on all tickets for printer issues.
• General lab housekeeping (lab clean outs, cardboard removal, etc.)
• Process all pipettes for annual pipette calibration.

Job Knowledgeable Training

• Trained in safe hazardous waste handling of bio bins/bio-waste disposal.
• Trained in cleaning and maintaining Decon equipment.
• Basic knowledge of building & lab management systems.
• Alarm monitoring and management.
• Basic inventory and tool safety.
• Monitoring automations systems.
• Escort vendors and contractors.
• Other duties as assigned.

Pre-Hire Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma.
• Six months prior work experience in a related work environment, illustrating good attendance, professional behavior, reliability.
• Ability to follow orders given orally and in writing.
• Ability to complete tasks and paperwork with basic supervision.
• Computer skills (i.e., excel, word, outlook)
• May require an ACTIVE driver’s license and personal vehicle.

Physical Qualifications

• Manual dexterity sufficient to use hand tools and paint.
• Ability to stand, crouch, and climb to perform repairs, use ladder, and perform various types of manual labor.
• Ability to lift to 50 pounds occasionally.
• Vision (with correction) sufficient for reading, performing repairs and painting.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time non-exempt position. Days and hours of work vary according to the business demands.

Travel

We expect our employees to remain flexible, and travel between sites may be necessary as the business demands.
