Job summary

AdventHealth is seeking an experienced MLS/MT leader to manage the clinical laboratory operations in Colorado. You will supervise technical staff, schedule workflow, and coordinate with hospital services to ensure accurate testing and timely results.

The role requires 3+ years MLS/MT/MLT experience, a qualifying bachelor’s degree in lab science, and strong attention to quality and safety standards. This is a full-time, day-shift position in Littleton, CO.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a qualifying laboratory science from an accredited institution.
• 26 semester hours of medical laboratory technology or science coursework required in equivalency.
• Military medical laboratory training considered for qualification.

Responsibilities

• Direct leadership of the clinical laboratory operations and staff.
• Schedule staff and monitor workflow for efficiency.
• Coordinate with other departments and hospital services.
• Hire, train, appraise performance and take corrective action.
• Investigate and resolve occurrence reports and manage data.
• Receive specimens, assess priority, ensure proper identification.
• Oversee validation of new analyzers and proficiency testing.
• Monitor quality metrics and lead improvement activities.

Job Description:

• Manages the clinical laboratory's operations, including direct leadership of technical associates.
• Schedules staff and monitors workflow to ensure efficient laboratory operations.
• Serves as a liaison with other laboratory departments and hospital services.
• Selects, hires, trains, appraises performance, and takes corrective action for associates.
• Investigates and resolves occurrence reports, compiling various reports and resolving issues.
• Receives specimens, assesses priority, assures appropriate specimen identification and appropriate specimen type.
• Coordinates implementation and validation of new analyzers, ensuring proficiency testing is assigned, tested, and submitted.
• Monitors quality metrics and processes to meet goals, facilitating investigation, follow-up, and retraining with associates as needed.
• Assists with resolution of unusual test orders by following up with reference lab, referring to lab leadership when appropriate.
• Performs all levels of testing within the assigned discipline with a high level of competency, utilizing critical thinking skills to correlate and interpret data.
• Leads and participates in laboratory performance improvement activities, promoting team building, employee engagement, patient satisfaction, and safety.
• Follows safety policies including the use of PPE, handwashing, and hazardous chemical handling, and completes required training for handling hazardous waste.
• May include transport of hazardous waste from the point of generation to a designated secure storage area; employee will be required to complete initial training (prior to handling hazardous waste) and refresher training to include proper handling and transport of hazardous waste, and proper selection, use and disposal of personal protective equipment.

Field of Study:

Must meet one of the following qualification pathways:

• Bachelor’s degree in chemical science, biological science, clinical laboratory science, medical laboratory science, medical technology, or a related qualifying laboratory science from an accredited institution.

OR

• Bachelor’s degree equivalency that includes:
  • 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses; OR
  • 24 semester hours of science courses, including:
    • 6 semester hours of chemistry;
    • 6 semester hours of biology; and
    • 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination.

OR

• Successful completion of at least a 50-week official U.S. military medical laboratory procedures training course.
• AND currently holds or previously held the military enlisted occupational specialty of Medical Laboratory Specialist (Laboratory Technician).

OR

• Qualified and served as high-complexity testing personnel on or before April 24, 1995, in a CLIA-certified laboratory as of December 28, 2024.
• AND has served continuously in that capacity since December 28, 2024.

Work Experience:

• 3+ years of MLS, MT, or MLT work experience in the clinical laboratory [Required]
