Job summary

DFA of California is seeking a Laboratory Technician 1 to support the Microbiology and Chemistry departments under the Laboratory Manager. The role involves working in a production atmosphere, performing methods in a neat, safe, and efficient manner, and communicating with laboratory personnel to ensure quality service.

You will prepare samples, maintain lab ware, read quantitative data for entry into LIMS, perform bacteriological media prep, and help maintain cleanliness and equipment.

Qualifications

• A.S. or B.S. in Biology and/or Chemistry preferred; equivalent experience acceptable.
• Knowledge and demonstration of aseptic technique.
• High attention to detail required.

Responsibilities

• Serve primarily in a production atmosphere as support.
• Performs all activities in a neat, safe, hygienic, and efficient manner.
• Communicates with laboratory personnel to ensure quality and efficient service.
• Maintains customer satisfaction and confidentiality.
• Works with ISO 17025 quality procedures related to sample documentation.
• Maintains professional attitude and working relationships with coworkers.
• Assists with washing and maintaining lab ware.
• Reads quantitative data and enters it into the LIMS system.
• Prepares and sets up samples for analysis.
• Maintains laboratory condition (equipment, supplies, QA, records).
• Demonstrates proper techniques (pipetting, labeling samples) and proficiency testing.
• Prepares and maintains bacteriological media (BPW, LST, TSB, etc.).
• Maintains sanitation and performs routine preventive maintenance.
• Able to lift heavy bags.
• Assists in other assigned duties as needed.
