Job summary

Boston Children's Hospital is seeking a Laboratory Support Technician to perform pre-analytical specimen processing and computer entry in the clinical laboratory. The role emphasizes accurate specimen handling, timely responses to provider inquiries, and daily QC documentation.

The position requires a High School diploma or GED, with a preference for a Bachelor's degree in a science-based STEM field and at least 3 months of related work experience.

Qualifications

• 3 months of work experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform pre-analytical specimen processing including stamping in, verifying I.D., identifying tests, and evaluating specimen quality and test setup.
• Perform computer order entry and inquiry functions.
• Provide courteous and timely customer service to providers calling into the lab.
• Record and evaluate daily QC and follow procedures when QC is out of range.
• Operate and maintain instrumentation such as centrifuges, refrigerators, and freezers.
• Maintain a neat and orderly workplace.
• Monitor specimen workflow ensuring quick response for STAT and timed tests.
• Participate in departmental continuous improvement projects.

Key Responsibilities:

Examinations and Procedures:

• Performing pre-analytical specimen processing includes stamping in, verifying I.D., identifying tests, and evaluating specimen quality and appropriate test set up.
• Performing computer order entry and inquiry functions.
• Providing courteous and timely customer service to providers calling into the lab.
• Performing, documenting, and evaluating daily QC and follows procedure when QC is out of range.
• Performing routine operation and maintenance of instrumentation in the work area such as centrifuges, refrigerators, and freezers.
• Maintaining workplace in a neat and orderly fashion.
• Continuously monitors specimen workflow. Ensures quick response for STAT and other timed tests.
• Participating in departmental continuous improvement projects as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

• High School/GED required
• Bachelor's degree is preferred in science-based STEM disciplines

Experience:

3 months of work experience.

Shift/hours:

• Monday - Friday, 2:30pm - 11:00pm, including rotating weekends

The posted pay range is Boston Children's reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.
