DISA Technologies is seeking a Prep Technician to perform precise sample preparation and testing of AUM material, tailings, and other bulk materials to support remediation projects.

The role emphasizes detail orientation, safety, and contributing to innovative mineral recovery research and operations. Requires laboratory or mining experience and familiarity with essential lab equipment.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate or Bachelor's in Chemistry, Geology, Materials Science, or related field preferred.
  • 1–3 years of laboratory or mining industry experience preferred.
  • Experience with mineral processing, reclamation, or industrial labs is a strong plus.
  • Supervisory Lead Lab Technician, unless otherwise designated.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare samples by receiving, labeling, crushing, splitting, and grinding drill-core, ore, and tailings samples for testing.
  • Safely operate and maintain laboratory equipment (jaw crusher, ring-and-puck mill, pressure filters, drying ovens, analytical balances).
  • Accurately log results into lab database and follow SOPs for reproducible results.
  • Assist with special projects, research, or field support tasks as needed.
  • Maintain tools and equipment and ensure safe, efficient work practices.

Job Summary

The Prep Technician will perform precise sample preparation and testing of AUM material, tailings, and other bulk materials to support DISA’s remediation projects. The role supports laboratory activities by ensuring samples are properly identified, prepared, homogenized and documented prior to analytical testing. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and eager to contribute to innovative mineral recovery research and operations.

Education/ Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s in Chemistry, Geology, Materials Science, or related field preferred.
  • 1–3 years of laboratory or mining industry experience preferred.
  • Experience with mineral processing, reclamation, or industrial labs a strong plus.

Typical Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Prepare samples by receiving, labeling, crushing, splitting, and grinding drill-core, ore, and tailings samples for testing.
  • Safely operate and maintain laboratory equipment (e.g., jaw crusher, ring-and-puck mill, pressure filters, drying ovens, analytical balances).
  • Accurately log results into lab database.
  • Follow standard operating procedures to ensure consistent and reproducible results.
  • Assist in special projects, research, or field support tasks as needed.
  • Maintain Tools and Equipment: Keep tools and workspaces clean and organized, ensuring safe and efficient work practices.
  • Abide by all policies and procedures established by DISA.
  • Attend and participate in all required safety trainings.
  • Assist with any task required by the direct supervisor.
Required Skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow precise procedures.
  • Hands-on mechanical aptitude for working with sample prep equipment.
  • Basic computer literacy, including Microsoft Excel and data entry.
  • Ability to maintain chain-of-custody and sample traceability throughout project phases.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing.
  • Organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines while managing multiple projects.
  • Collaborate effectively as part of a team, supporting shared goals and fostering positive relationships.
  • Maintain professionalism with high attention to detail, reliability, accountability, and accuracy in all work deliverables.

  • Ability to follow safety protocols and maintain compliance with OSHA/MSHA and company safety standards.
  • Be a valid U.S. citizen or legally authorized to work in the United States.

Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to sit, stand, bend, or kneel for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to interact with people and technology while either standing or sitting.
  • To best service our customers, all employees must be able to communicate face-to-face and on the phone with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be able to perform repetitive tasks such as wrenching, twisting, fastening, and typing.
