Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a Lab Operations Manager to lead daily lab and facility operations. You will oversee equipment, vendor relationships, and EHS compliance to ensure safety and efficiency across the BioLabs network.

You will manage onboarding/offboarding for resident companies and participate in continuous improvement of processes and safety protocols. This role requires on-call availability and strong leadership across technical staff.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, genetics, or related life sciences.
  • Five years' lab management experience in academic and/or commercial labs.
  • Two years' supervisory or managerial experience leading technical or operations staff.
  • Advanced knowledge of cellular, molecular, and microbiology techniques.
  • Knowledge of safety, chemical and biological waste management and maintenance.
  • Willingness to be on-call for site-related issues and after-hours events.
  • Ability to handle emergencies with independent judgment.
  • Understanding resident companies' missions and milestones.
  • Customer-service focus and strong work ethic.
  • Detail-oriented with emphasis on quality control.
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain vendor relationships for equipment and services.
  • Serve as site EHS officer; manage chemical inventories, SDS databases, and hazardous waste protocols.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations and safety protocols.
  • Lead resident onboarding and offboarding, including equipment training.

Job description


  • Manage the daily operations of the lab and facility, including emergency responses

  • Oversee laboratory and facility equipment management, including purchasing, installation, preventative maintenance, repairs, and cleaning

  • Manage relationships with equipment vendors

  • Act as the site EHS officer and maintain chemical inventories, SDS databases, and hazardous waste protocols

  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and safety protocols

  • Lead resident onboarding and offboarding, including equipment training

  • Foster a collaborative and safe lab environment and maintain clean, functional spaces and infrastructure

  • Manage lab supply inventory, order supplies, and maintain space allocation

  • Respond to site and lab-related issues outside regular business hours as part of the on-call rotation

  • Identify potential issues and solve them using independent judgment without immediate supervision

  • Participate in network teams to develop and implement best practices across the BioLabs network

  • Perform other duties as needed


Requirements


  • Minimum bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, genetics, or a related life sciences discipline

  • Minimum five years' lab management experience in an academic and/or commercial laboratory environment

  • Minimum two years' supervisory or managerial experience leading technical or operations staff

  • Advanced knowledge of cellular, molecular, and microbiology techniques

  • Knowledge of safety, chemical and biological waste management, equipment decontamination, and maintenance

  • Willingness to be on-call for site-related issues and attend after-hours events

  • Ability to handle emergencies with independent judgment

  • Ability to understand resident companies' missions, scientific milestones, and commercialization processes

  • Customer-service focus, excellent work ethic, and optimistic attitude

  • Detail-oriented with attention to quality control

  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills, effective listening, and proactive relationship building

  • Self-motivated, able to initiate and deliver projects with minimal supervision

  • Outstanding organizational and prioritization skills

  • Experience with billing, budgeting, and reporting

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications

  • Ability to lift over 50 pounds and stand for multiple hours at a time

  • Ability to travel to other BioLabs locations domestically and internationally


Demonstrates advanced knowledge of laboratory management, including equipment oversight, safety compliance, and emergency response. Proven ability to lead teams, manage vendor relationships, and maintain a collaborative lab environment while ensuring quality control and operational efficiency.
