Job description

The Bidaye Laboratory at the Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience is seeking a Lab Manager. Our lab studies the neural circuits for locomotion using Drosophila melanogaster as a model system.

The candidate will have to perform basic Drosophila work including stock maintenance, setting up crosses, immunohistochemistry and basic Drosophila neurobiology experiments. There will also be opportunities to learn new techniques like two-photon calcium imaging and whole cell electrophysiology. The candidate will train new lab personnel on standard lab protocols. The candidate will oversee lab management and order basic lab reagents and make commonly used lab solutions (e.g. saline solutions used for electrophysiology experiments). The candidate will also be a liaison with other MPFI internal departments (e.g. microscopy core, mechanical workshop, IT, purchase department etc.).

Bachelor’s degree in a related scientific discipline with minimum five years relevant experience is required. Work experience could be less/exempt for candidates with Master’s/Doctoral degrees. The candidate should have previous experience working with Drosophila and should be adept at Drosophila stock maintenance and setting up crosses. The candidate is expected to be organized and should possess good communication skills to help generate a collegial environment in the lab.
