Job summary

The Laboratory Manager oversees the Dass Microbial Ecology Laboratory at Texas A&M AgriLife, keeping the facility organized, stocked, and ready for research. You will manage inventory, coordinate purchasing, and ensure equipment upkeep while supporting safety and regulatory compliance.

Collaborating with the PI, research staff, postdocs, and students, you will schedule shared equipment, train new personnel, and help keep multiple projects running smoothly in a dynamic academic environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in microbiology, molecular biology, or a related field with five years of related laboratory experience.
  • Master’s degree in microbiology, molecular biology, or a related field with three years of related laboratory experience.
  • Ph.D. with one year of related laboratory experience.
  • Familiarity with general laboratory operations, safety practices, and recordkeeping.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Preferred: Masters in microbiology, molecular biology, or a related field.

  • Maintain laboratory inventory, including reagents, consumables, and supplies, and reorder as needed.
  • Coordinate purchasing and track orders, deliveries, and supply budgets.
  • Keep the laboratory clean, organized, and ready for daily research activities.
  • Oversee routine maintenance, calibration, and service of laboratory equipment.
  • Support laboratory safety and compliance, including protocols, documentation, and required recordkeeping.
  • Manage waste handling and general upkeep of shared laboratory spaces.
  • Onboard and train new personnel on laboratory procedures and safe practices.
  • Coordinate scheduling of shared equipment and laboratory space across projects.
  • Work with the PI and research team to keep concurrent projects running smoothly.

The Laboratory Manager works closely with the PI, research staff, postdoctoral researchers, and students.**Responsibilities:**-Maintain laboratory inventory, including reagents, consumables, and supplies, and reorder as needed.-Coordinate purchasing and track orders, deliveries, and supply budgets.-Keep the laboratory clean, organized, and ready for daily research activities.-Oversee routine maintenance, calibration, and service of laboratory equipment.-Support laboratory safety and compliance, including protocols, documentation, and required recordkeeping.-Manage waste handling and general upkeep of shared laboratory spaces.-Onboard and train new personnel on laboratory procedures and safe practices.-Coordinate scheduling of shared equipment and laboratory space across projects.-Work with the PI and research team to keep concurrent projects running smoothly. -Ensures that procedures are carried out appropriately and issues are addressed.-Adheres to Federal, State, and Texas A&M University System (TAMUS) procedures, policies, and safety regulations -Maintains quality assurance manuals, Standard Operating Procedure (SOPs), validation of laboratory procedures, check sample program, and record control.-Performs other duties as assigned. **Qualifications:****Required Qualifications:**-Bachelor’s degree in microbiology, molecular biology, or a related field and five years of related experience including laboratory experience in an academic or research setting.-Or, Master's degree in microbiology, molecular biology, or a related field and three years of related experience including laboratory experience in an academic or research setting.-Or, Ph.D. and one year of related experience including laboratory experience in an academic or research setting. -Familiarity with general laboratory operations, safety practices, and recordkeeping.-Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.**Preferred Qualifications:** -Masters in microbiology, molecular biology, or a related field.-Prior experience managing or coordinating a research laboratory.-Experience with inventory or ordering systems and budget tracking.-Familiarity with BSL-2 laboratory practices.-Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.-Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.**Other Requirements:** -Ability to exert light force.-Work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.-Travel required. # **What You Need to Know****Salary:** Compensation is commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications. **Position Funding:** This position is funded through grants or contracts. Continued employment is dependent upon ongoing funding and satisfactory job performance.
