Bronson Healthcare in Michigan seeks a Lab Lead Technologist for the 2nd shift at Bronson Methodist Hospital. You will supervise staff, ensure accurate testing, and uphold quality and regulatory standards.

Required: Bachelor's degree, ASCP MLS/MLT certification, and at least two years of clinical laboratory experience. On-site role with potential evenings/weekends and on-call hours.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • ASCP certification as MLT or MLS or equivalent is required or acceptable.
  • Must maintain ongoing certification maintenance if ASCP certified after Jan 1, 2004 or AMT certified after Jan 1, 2006.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate laboratory staff and activities.
  • Perform and evaluate laboratory procedures with competency and training.
  • Operate, calibrate, and troubleshoot lab equipment and instrumentation.
  • Ensure compliance with QA/QC, safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide technical and clinical decision support to staff and clinicians.
  • Participate in quality system documents and proficiency testing.

Education And Certification Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Completed ASCP certification as MLT or MLS. Also acceptable are ASCP certifications in categorical(s) or ASCP certification as specialist in applicable department(s).
  • Must maintain ongoing certification maintenance if ASCP certified after January 1, 2004 or AMT certified after January 1, 2006.
Required Experience
  • Two years full-time experience in clinical laboratory.
Role And Responsibilities
  • Employee must demonstrate competencies specific to populations served for clinical or non-clinical dependent upon laboratory location.
  • Demonstrate proper performance of manual and automated clinical laboratory procedures through satisfactory training and competency evaluation, dependent upon department assignment.
  • Must be proficient in computer programs associated with instrumentation, documentation, and record keeping within the department.
  • Understands and participates in all aspects of clinical laboratory testing; pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical.
  • Reflects a positive attitude and abides by Bronson's Standards and Plan for Excellence.
  • Skilled in self-organization and coordinating the work of others. May guide and coordinate the work activities of subordinates.
  • Demonstrates interpersonal communication skills, ability to resolve conflict and ability to work as a team leader. Skill in both verbal and written communication.
  • Provides technical and clinical decision support to staff and clinicians.
  • Develops procedures for the laboratory tests.
  • Participates in all aspects of the Laboratory Quality System Plan.
  • Dependent upon department assignment, performs and evaluates quality controls on testing to ensure results are within acceptable ranges; researches problems and corrects. Documents and reports as required by regulatory agencies.
  • Participates in Proficiency testing and/or assessments per compliance policy and procedure if assigned to technical area(s).
  • Participates in the evaluation of products and techniques to use, ensuring they are contemporary and cost effective.
  • Anticipates and maintains required supplies for uninterrupted testing. Inventory manages laboratory supplies together with staff.
  • Ability to work under specific time constraints and deadlines. Available to respond to irregular hours, including holidays, weekends and on-call hours to provide support on-site (or distant if appropriate).
  • Operates, calibrates, and conducts performance checks on clinical laboratory equipment.
  • Guides troubleshooting and process solving of equipment/technical problems and takes action to resolve.
  • Performs testing and validates laboratory test result per department assignment. Dependent on job duties, may have direct patient contact when collecting a specimen and/or processing and evaluating specimens.
  • Assists in training and orientation of new staff and students and assesses for retraining or competency needs.
  • If qualified, performs other duties as assigned (for example: competency evaluations, scheduling, payroll, etc.)
  • Dependent on job duties, a valid Michigan driver's license and insurability through Bronson's carrier may be required.
Working Conditions
  • Work in an environment with some exposure to noxious fumes and unpleasant noises.
  • Work in an environment with risk of sustaining illness and injury from the use of chemicals and biological materials and organisms.
  • Work which produces high levels of mental/visual fatigue, e.g., interactive and repetitive or small detailed work requiring alertness and concentration for sustained periods of time, the operation of and full attention to personal computer up to 40-70 percent of the time.
  • Involves considerable standing or walking, regular lifting of light-weight objects (45lbs or less), and assisting with heavier tasks as necessary.
  • Working conditions could include minor straining, fatiguing positions, physical motions, etc.
