BJC HealthCare is seeking a Lab III Supervisor for Memorial Hospital Shiloh Laboratory in Illinois. This role balances hands-on laboratory work with staff development, quality initiatives, and operational leadership, coordinating a team across multiple shifts and ensuring regulatory compliance.

The position requires MLS certification (ASCP preferred; AMT accepted), 2-5 years of generalist lab experience, and strong Blood Bank/Hematology/POC expertise.

Lab III Supervisor - Memorial Hospital Shiloh Laboratory

Memorial Hospital Shiloh is seeking an experienced Lab III Supervisor to join our growing laboratory team. This leadership role is ideal for a Medical Laboratory Scientist who enjoys balancing hands-on technical work with staff development, quality initiatives, and operational leadership.

What You’ll Do

• Partner with another supervisor to oversee daily laboratory operations
• Supervise and support a team of 12-14 laboratory professionals across multiple shifts
• Serve as a laboratory generalist with strong Blood Bank expertise
• Oversee Blood Bank, Hematology, Point of Care, Molecular (Cepheid), and Send-Out testing
• Maintain personnel records, competency assessments, policies, procedures, and instrument logs
• Ensure CAP readiness and regulatory compliance

Schedule

• Monday-Friday
• Flexible start times between 6:00 AM and 8:00 AM
• No weekends or holidays

What We’re Looking For

Overview

Memorial Hospital Belleville is an acute care hospital offering medical and surgical services plus critical and emergency care including Children’s at Memorial for pediatric emergency care. It provides patients a full complement of diagnostic and treatment services as well as heart and vascular care. Memorial, offering medical and surgical services plus critical care, is an accredited Chest Pain Center with PCI by the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care and is designated as an Acute Stroke Ready Hospital by the Illinois Department of Public Health. In addition, Memorial Belleville recently was accredited by the American College of Radiology as a designated Lung Cancer Screening Center. Since 2008, it has been designated as a Magnet-recognized organization for nursing excellence by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Memorial Hospital Shiloh, a 94-bed, all-private suite hospital was recognized with Magnet status in 2018 and provides emergency care, labor & delivery, nursery, medical and surgical services plus critical care.

Preferred Qualifications

Role Purpose

Responsible for managing daily operations (QA/QC, equipment maintenance, workflow, service levels, operational oversight, workspace), staff (first level supervision, scheduling, coaching, staff development, CE, etc.) and performing analysis within the regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

• Manages individual(s) including but not limited to: hires, trains, assigns work, manages & evaluates performance, conducts professional development plans. Ensures that the productivity and actions of that group meet/support the overall operational goals of the department as established by department leadership.
• Develops and adheres to departmental staffing, revenue and/or expense budgets. Responds to changes in the business which may affect the ability to achieve the budget goals.
• Supervises laboratory activities and ensures par levels of supplies are maintained and procedures are performed promptly, accurately, and precisely according to department and hospital policies and procedures.
• Keeps abreast of new developments, techniques and procedures on equipment, tests, and methods as well as other information relating to the laboratory and writes and / or updates procedures for assigned areas as necessary.
• Schedules staff and assign work to ensure that laboratory procedures are performed promptly proficiently, and accurately. (When necessary the supervisor is expected to perform tasks routinely assigned to direct reports.)
• Establishes systems and processes to streamline tasks and eliminate waste. Takes responsibility for the daily operations, both technically and administratively to ensure quality services.
• Responsible for monitoring test analyses and specimen examinations to ensure that acceptable levels of analytic performance are maintained. Assure all remedial actions are taken whenever test systems deviate from established performance specifications. Ensure patient test results are not reported until all corrective actions have been taken and the test system is properly functioning.
