Overview

The position is a Laboratory Generalist 1 with a night shift schedule and a target pay noted below.

Position

Laboratory Generalist 1 – receives and prepares samples for laboratory analysis, keeps instruments configured, runs tests, reads and interprets results, and releases results.

Responsibilities

• Receive and prepare samples for laboratory analysis or send out tests.
• Perform startup and required maintenance on analyzers.
• Perform all required quality control per Quality Assurance guidelines.
• Train in all areas according to Standard Operating Practices (SOPs).
• Enter and release results.
• Participate in improving lab efficiency, quality, and cooperation.
• Participate in all departmental training programs.
• Reconcile pending lists.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Education/Experience: High school diploma or equivalent; 2- or 4-year degree in a science-related field preferred; prior lab experience preferred.
• Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Laboratory skills, general science background, attention to detail, ability to work independently, organized with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, effective communication, and proficiency with personal computers and Microsoft Office.

Working Conditions

• Stationary position for up to 2 hours; continuous computer and lab equipment use.
• Occasional bending, kneeling, stooping or crouching; ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs.
• Exposure to laboratory environments with potential biohazards mitigated by PPE; potential exposure to agents causing zoonotic disease; handling of hazardous chemicals as defined by regulations.
• Extended hours may be needed; close to moderate supervision.

Schedule and Compensation

Work shift: Start time 11:30pm–8:30am, Monday–Friday with alternating Saturdays. Target pay: $21.63 per hour. Pay decisions consider skills, experience, education, training, and budget.
