Job description

JOB PURPOSE STATEMENT

The Physical therapy lab coordinator is responsible for the preparation of the physical therapy lab setting, inspection and calibration of laboratory equipment, and making sure all equipment is safe for use during the lab before each lab session begins. The lab coordinator will also attend every lab session and provide direct advice (in conjunction with faculty) to students about procedures being learned in the lab session. The lab coordinator will also attend any necessary lecture to gain knowledge of the instruction provided to the student that correlates to the lab procedures. The lab coordinator may be asked to aid in demonstrations, direct activities, provide audiovisual aids, reference materials, and guidance to students during lab sessions, and assist the academic faculty. The lab coordinator will also be expected to provide the same amount of assistance to students during open lab sessions ( lab sessions offered outside of scheduled time) for students to practice skills in preparation for skills checks and practical examination, as well as completion of lab course assignments that require direct treatment interventions. The lab coordinator is required to maintain a safe and professional environment during these open lab hours. The hours can be scheduled but at the lab coordinator's discretion with the guidance and approval of the course instructor as appropriate to the course requirements. The lab time requirements are approximately an average of 20 hours/week during fall, spring, and summer semesters, but hours may fluctuate to more than 20 hours during specific weeks of intensive examinations. This is a Part-Time, 12-month position.

FUNCTIONS

  4. Direct participation in laboratory sessions with faculty and students
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Lab maintenance and equipment management, including preparation
    1. Maintain supplies, equipment, and audio-visual materials for all lab courses
    2. Prepares campus laboratory session for students as directed by faculty, deciding what is needed to complete the lab
    3. Maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of the lab
    4. Contact biomedical support annually for equipment checks
    5. Removes equipment when appropriate
    6. Orders equipment to maintain contemporary practice (with approval from program director)
  2. Student academic support outside of lab sessions
    1. Act as a resource to students between scheduled labs by reviewing skills previously taught by faculty in preparation for skill checks, practical examinations, and lab assignments
    2. Interact with students before class time, watch students perform skills, help correct what is wrong, and reinforce what is right
    3. Connect the student to resources to assist in learning, as well as be a professional mentor during open lab sessions
    4. Maintain a safe and professional treatment environment during open lab sessions
  3. Program Administrative Support with equipment management, budgeting, and ordering
    1. Communicate lab needs to faculty and administration
    2. Provide regular reports to department program leaders about lab equipment, inventory, biomedical checks, and equipment management logs
    3. Maintain knowledge of current trends in the field by reading, attending class lecture sessions, attending conferences, and seminars as needed
  4. Direct participation in laboratory sessions with faculty and students

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
